Chapter 448

A rapid knocking at Janine's door woke her. Janine, who usually slept early—around eight every night—was startled. Initially, she thought she was dreaming. Putting on a robe, she went to the door and looked through the peephole. Maisy stood outside.

Confused by Maisy's late-night visit, Janine remembered the Williams family's troubles; Steven and Charles had told her about some of it. She recalled how Maisy and the Williamses had forced Skylar to resign. Janine frowned.

Through tears, Maisy pleaded, "Mom, please let me in. I'm your daughter. Are you going to lock me out?"

Only then did Janine notice Maisy's messy hair, filthy clothes, and pale complexion. After a moment's hesitation, Janine opened the door.

Maisy immediately barged in, hugging Janine and crying, "I didn't know where to go, Mom. The Williamses are bankrupt and don't want me anymore. They used all the money in my account to pay their debts. I'm penniless; I only have you."

Janine froze, but eventually hugged Maisy back. However, remembering Maisy's past actions, her expression turned somber. "You chose to stay with the Williamses instead of returning to us," Janine said. "They must have cast you out for a reason. Don't think I'll fall for your lies. There's no room for you; we're moving soon. You're over twenty. Skylar has a job and a place of her own. You don't need to come to me. There's not much love lost between us."

Janine pushed Maisy out of the house.

Maisy hadn't expected Janine to be so heartless. "Are you going to watch me starve?" she complained. "I'm your daughter!" She pointed out Skylar's, Steven's, and Charles's financial success, implying they could easily support her lavish lifestyle. "Isn't Janine just a hotel cleaner?" she sneered. "They give her thousands a month! How can they be so selfish?"

Janine retorted coldly, "You're not disabled; you won't starve. Get a job. It's not hard to support yourself." While she felt pity, Janine refused to invite this troublemaker back into her children's lives. Maisy was dishonest and scheming—a product of Jeffrey's parenting.

Maisy's jaw dropped. "I'm the heiress to a powerful family, and I'm marrying into wealth!" she screamed. "How could I possibly work? I won't be controlled by any of you!"

The door slammed shut. Furious, Maisy shouted, "Don't you want a better future? With my beauty and intelligence, I'll marry rich. You'll benefit then! I'm only asking for a little help, and you won't even do that!"

Janine listened to Maisy's rant, sighing at her broken moral compass. However, she immediately felt relief at her decision. Charles had sent her a video trending on social media—seen throughout Jipsburg City—showing Maisy stripping wildly. The sight gave Janine goosebumps.
