Chapter 46

Skylar had just finished speaking when she heard Kenny inhale deeply in anger.

“Say that again!” Kenny thundered.

Skylar raised a well-defined eyebrow and flashed a half-smile. “You’re not that old, yet you seem to have a lot of health issues. I suggest you get a checkup at the hospital; your ears and brain aren’t functioning properly.”

She ended the call abruptly. Nothing good would come from further conversation with Kenny, a scoundrel.

Although the phone call left her feeling significantly satisfied, a dull ache remained in her chest. After all, these were people she had once eagerly wanted to get along with. She quickly snapped out of it, clicking her tongue at her former naivete.

Kenny gritted his teeth, watching Skylar hang up. His usually charming face contorted into a hideous frown.

“What did she say? Was she still being stubborn? Doesn’t she think about the consequences of her actions? How can I have such a vile young sister?” Samuel’s features darkened ominously.

“So, she’s not going to delete her post or apologize?” Maisy bit her lower lip. She wondered who had given Skylar the courage to cause her so much trouble.

“What on earth did she say?” Sadie asked Kenny.

“She firmly held her ground and refused to delete her post. She even insulted me!” Kenny snarled.

“Skylar won’t listen to reason and is ignoring our instructions. In that case, we have to do some PR damage control before this trends on social media,” Samuel said. “That way, she’ll be humiliated. We can’t let Maisy become the target of online hate!”

Maisy pouted and murmured, “Thanks, Samuel.”

Peter, who had been mostly silent, frowned. “Skylar doesn’t seem that stupid. Let’s check her social media first. Maybe she’s just being arrogant and will delete it later.”

They checked Skylar’s Instagram account repeatedly over the next thirty minutes, but nothing had changed. Skylar hadn’t deleted the post.

By then, “the other woman” and “cheater” were trending online. The topic had exploded on TikTok. Almost every TikTok user in Jipsburg City saw screenshots of Skylar’s post.

Maisy’s phone buzzed incessantly with calls and texts. People kept asking why she was the “other woman.” They had looked into Christopher and knew he was only a low-level clerk. No one understood her interest in him.

“What? Why is everyone believing this lie?” Maisy whined to the Williamses.

Sadie’s phone also lit up with alerts. Everyone contacting her also inquired about the affair.

Taking a deep breath, she turned to her three sons. “Resolve this immediately! Make everyone know Skylar photoshopped that picture!”

“Got it,” they replied.

Maisy clutched her phone, her head bowed low, murderous rage flickering in her eyes. She cursed silently, “You’re asking for it, Skylar! I’m going to make you the most hated person in Jipsburg! Everyone will avoid you like the plague!”

She then texted Christopher on WhatsApp.

Later that afternoon, after Skylar finished work, Caleb approached her, phone in hand. “Skylar, look! People have screenshotted your post. They’ve reposted it on TikTok and Facebook!”

Skylar glanced at his phone. She had anticipated the post’s widespread dissemination; many of her followers were classmates from Jipsburg City, and most would recognize Maisy. Still, she was surprised by the speed at which the news spread.

“That cheater and his other woman deserve to be insulted! They brought this on themselves!” Caleb voiced his support. He figured Christopher wouldn’t dare approach Skylar again now that his actions were exposed.
