Chapter 489
Annabelle couldn't keep her composure. She frantically called Jeremy, pleading, "Mr. Hughes, please let's calm down and think. We shouldn't end this little life so casually, should we? It's come into the world, it's our child. It wants to live. Aborting it would be cruel and unfair."
"Wait for me at home. I'll be there in ten minutes and take you to the hospital myself," Jeremy ordered.
Annabelle's blood ran cold. She had poured out her heart, but Jeremy remained unmoved. He didn't hesitate, not for a second. He was heartless.
Natalie gripped her phone tightly. Her hands trembled, but she steadied herself, preventing the phone from falling. She chuckled coldly and said, "Annabelle's pregnant. Why is she so nervous and eager to claim Jeremy?"
Skylar frowned, glancing at Natalie's phone. She read Annabelle's boastful messages, each sentence a fresh wound. They would haunt Natalie's nightmares.
"Stop reading it. She's probably exaggerating," Skylar said.
Natalie hummed. "Help me reply. My fingers won't work. Just say, 'I don't want Jeremy anymore. Since you're so keen on my unwanted baggage, take him. Don't disgust me.'"
Annabelle gasped at Natalie's reply. "What does she mean?" she wondered. Did Natalie genuinely not want Jeremy, or was it another ploy? "What are you doing, Natalie? You wouldn't be so generous as to give me Jeremy, would you?"
Many women in Jipsburg coveted Jeremy's wife. How many had wept at news of his marriage? Was Natalie really discarding the man she'd worked so hard to secure? It didn't seem right.
Annabelle texted, "Since you don't want him, why don't you get a divorce?" She disregarded Natalie's insults; she only wanted results.
Natalie didn't reply. Annabelle's impulsive act now gnawed at her. If Natalie relinquished Jeremy, he would definitely marry her.
A few minutes later, a familiar figure appeared before Natalie and Skylar. Before Jeremy's arrival, there was still a chance for a different outcome. But his appearance confirmed everything.
Natalie stared intently at Jeremy's silhouette as he entered. She gripped Skylar's hand tightly, tears glistening in her eyes.
Chapter 489
Her phone rang. Looking down, she saw the caller ID and tears flowed freely. It was Austin. She couldn't refuse his call; he was her boss.
"Hi, Mr. Powell," she said.
Austin asked concernedly, "Are you alright?"
Natalie wiped her tears and said softly, "Yes. I need to take two more days of leave. I'm sorry, Mr. Powell."
After a pause, Austin said, "No need to apologize. It's understandable to be ill. Take two more days. I'm on leave too. Nothing urgent is happening."
