Chapter 496
At the end of her rant, Natalie’s emotions overwhelmed her. She was on the verge of a breakdown. Jeremy’s face paled at her words; Natalie knew everything.
After work, Skylar called Natalie. “So, you’ve moved out, Nath?” she asked. Natalie had texted her earlier about moving out that afternoon. She was now in a small apartment her parents had given her—a place she’d lived in before her marriage.
“Yes, I just moved in. Jeremy won’t agree to a divorce, though,” Natalie said, her head pounding as she thought of her confrontation with his stubbornness.
Skylar got in her car. Before starting the engine, she asked, “Do you want me to stay with you?”
“I’m okay for now. You should go home and rest. I have everything I need here; I’ve already cleaned up. Actually, there are two rooms—you can come over anytime,” Natalie replied. She felt lucky; despite losing her husband to an affair, she still had her best friend’s support, a blessing during this difficult time.
Worried about Skylar, Natalie said her takeout had arrived and quickly ended the call. After a moment looking around her familiar apartment, she called a high school friend. “My husband won’t agree to a divorce. I want to file; can you help me with the legal process?”
Her friend replied, “Okay, I’ll get it started. Perhaps you should talk to your husband first.”
“I might, later. For now, let’s begin the process. I want him to know I’m determined to divorce him.”
“Alright.”
Natalie threw her phone down after hanging up, her heart aching, perhaps amplified by the silence. She didn’t understand. Jeremy had sought out other women, fallen for someone else—why wouldn't he divorce her? Was he afraid of their parents’ disapproval?
After a moment, she texted Jeremy: “If you’re afraid of our parents’ reaction to the divorce, I’ll tell them. We can say our personalities clashed; we only realized we couldn’t tolerate each other after getting married, and we're separating amicably.”
Jeremy replied: “Natalie, we’re not getting a divorce.”
Seeing his refusal, tears welled in Natalie’s eyes. “Jeremy, why stay together? I can’t accept your betrayal! Put yourself in my shoes. If I cheated and slept with someone else, would you accept it? Wouldn’t you find me disgusting?”
This time, Jeremy didn’t reply, and Natalie didn’t expect him to.
Chapter 496
Even now, Natalie felt trapped in a nightmare. How could Jeremy have betrayed her so?
Skylar returned to Galaxy Villa, surprised to find Joe home so early. Remembering Jeremy’s betrayal, she suspected Joe knew something. The hot spring hotel Jeremy and Annabelle had visited belonged to Joe; they attended events together. He definitely knew; they were inseparable.
