Chapter 56
Skylar had no way to post the videos; she couldn't reveal the truth.
Noticing the silence, she said, "I'll get a lawyer."
"I don't think Jipsburg lawyers will take your case, Skye. The Williamses' legal and PR teams are top-notch," Steven said gloomily.
Holding her phone tightly, Skylar remained silent. Anyone watching would see the hate bubbling inside her.
"What about showing the videos to your biological parents? They might help and prevent this from escalating," Steven suggested. His friends had suggested the same.
He knew Skylar didn't want to see Jeffrey and Sadie, and that the couple often oppressed her because of Maisy. How would they react? It would likely cause her great distress. As her older brother, Steven felt helpless.
Skylar's eyes reddened. "I'll think about it," she said softly. "Don't worry, Steven. You have a lot on your plate. My issue isn't major. I'll handle it. I know you're worried, but I'm a grown woman now. I won't crumble. I'll face this."
She should have handled things better, but hadn't expected to worry her family.
After hanging up, Steven's eyes welled with tears.
Skylar was about to pocket her phone when it rangโa call from Charles. She summarized the situation. Charles offered to come to her, but she refused, saying she could manage and asking him to focus on his work.
The call ended, and she checked the time: 6:30. She changed clothes before going downstairs, found yogurt in the refrigerator, added oatmeal, and ate.
Then Sadie called.
Skylar stared at Sadie's name, remembering Steven's words, and felt a sharp pain in her heart. Should she give them another chance?
Chapter 56 (continued)
"You finally answered! Have you realized your mistake? You're a daughter of this family. We'll forgive you if you apologize. This will blow over. We'll send you overseas temporarily. Behave yourself."
Sadie's call finally answered, leaving Skylar speechless. Relieved, yet still dissatisfied, she answered coldly, "The photo is real. I have videos of them at the mall."
Sadie was taken aback. "What? Real? Impossible! Maisy's virtuous, unlike you, who lived with Christopher so recklessly."
Skylar's heart turned cold. "Did Maisy tell you that? Check your WhatsApp."
Maisy consistently badmouthed herโa classic example of someone who drags others down.
A few minutes later, Sadie called again.
"Have you watched the videos?" Skylar asked.
Sadie replied, "Maisy needs a happy marriage. This will ruin her chances. Let's end this. I won't ask for an apology, but you can't tell anyone. Consider it Maisy owing you. We'll compensate you. They were justclose. Not actually involved."
"So, even though they kissed, they weren't involved? I question your values, Mrs. Williams. I shouldn't have expected anything from any of you."
