Chapter 569

Jeremy felt a heaviness settle in his chest. Joe nodded, asking, “Did you tell Natalie about this?”

“Not yet. I’ll mention it when the time is right,” Jeremy replied, lighting a cigarette and standing by the window. He was gathering this information as leverage, aiming to prevent Natalie from divorcing him—a despicable tactic.

Meanwhile, a colleague interrupted Steven at work, informing him of a visitor. Family visits during work hours were unusual.

“Alright,” he said, setting aside his experiment and leaving. Visitors weren't typically allowed, so the person waited in the lobby. A well-maintained middle-aged woman sat there. However, the woman's luxurious clothing didn't resemble Janine's typical style.

Approaching, Steven greeted her: “Hello, I’m Steven Sullivan. Were you looking for me?”

Sabrina was taken aback when she saw Steven. Contrary to her expectations, he didn't appear to be from a humble background; he looked like he came from a wealthy family. No wonder Annie had fallen for him.

“I’m Annie’s mother,” Sabrina introduced herself, her superior tone highlighting the perceived disparity between them. She believed Steven's relationship with Annie was his great fortune.

“Annie’s mother? Mrs. Silver, what can I do for you?” Steven's tone was cool, but respectful.

Sabrina's brows furrowed at his coldness. “Annie’s father and I know about the relationship. We disapproved initially, but…”

“Wait a minute. You said you disapproved?” Steven confirmed.

Sabrina's eyes flickered. “We had reservations, but over the past couple of days, Annie’s father and I have realized her happiness matters most. We now approve. However, you’ll need to prove yourself…”

Steven interrupted. “Stick with your initial decision. I’m not worthy of Annie, and there’s no need to prove myself. We’ve broken up. Didn’t Annie tell you?”

Sabrina hadn't expected his directness. Annie had mentioned the breakup.

Initially, Sabrina thought Steven was bluffing. Annie was exceptional, with countless suitors. She doubted he could let Annie go so easily.

Days later, the Silver family was in chaos. Annie confirmed the breakup and Steven's lack of interest in reconciliation. Sabrina still looked down on Steven, but they needed him to achieve their goals. His cold response embarrassed her.

She took a deep breath. “Are you still angry at Annie? Everything she told you is true. We were blinded and almost harmed her. She’s been isolating herself, refusing to eat or drink. Her condition is poor. She really cares about you.”

Steven interrupted: “I have work. Mrs. Silver, please leave.” He turned toward the elevator.

Stunned, Sabrina shouted, “Don’t you care about Annie?”

“We’ve broken up. Her matters are no longer my concern. Don’t come looking for me again. I understand your family’s situation. Your visit revealed your true intentions—such an ugly display!” He stepped into the elevator, leaving those words behind.
