Chapter 571
The Elden family's small living room was in shambles, permeated by an unpleasant odor. Neighbors knocked again. "What's going on? It smells awful! Do something about it! If there's a cleanliness problem, clean it up!"
"We're cleaning up," Peter replied curtly.
The neighbor left. Peter looked at the messy living room, then at Sadie, lying on the couch. Once a wealthy socialite, she now resembled a beggar; the stench emanated largely from her. Peter, delivering food daily, had no time to care for Sadie. Kenny stayed home, eating, sleeping, and drinking—listless and doing nothing else. Samuel, on the other hand, was out every day, rarely bringing home money.
Peter, at his wit's end, walked to the guest bedroom and slapped the sleeping Kenny.
Kenny awoke, furious. "Peter! Have you lost your mind? I'm your brother! How dare you hit me?"
Peter's reply was sharp. "Don't think being my brother gives you special privileges. I'd hit you even if you were my father. You're supposed to be the head of this family, yet you stay home all day, eating, drinking, and sleeping on the money I earn. You don't even clean the house! Look at Mom—look at what she's become! Clean this house and take care of Mom, or leave!"
Kenny felt wronged. "Why should I leave? Your incompetence bankrupted the company. If it weren't for you, I'd still be a Williams scion."
"Dream on! You're the useless one. You have hands and feet, yet you don't support yourself, shifting responsibility onto me. Don't forget, your comfortable life was thanks to my tireless work at the company," Peter said, cutting through the pretense.
"You!"
Peter grabbed Kenny's collar and dragged him to Sadie. "Clean Mom up."
Kenny hadn't properly looked at Sadie for days. Her eyes were open but unfocused; she didn't look at either of them, only murmuring, "It's retribution. All retribution."
"I can't stand this anymore. I'm going to find Skylar," Kenny declared, attempting to storm out.
Peter let him go, also curious if Skylar had abandoned them.
Skylar was rear-ended on her way to Natalie's house after work. The vehicle that hit her was a Maserati. She got out to assess the damage. The Maserati's owner, a woman in high heels, approached. Nearby, people exclaimed, "Isn't that Felicia Ingram?" "It is! A celebrity car accident! That small-car owner's in trouble." "It's clearly a rear-end collision; Felicia's at fault." "Or maybe it's a scam? Maybe she saw the luxury car and faked it."
Because the other party was a female celebrity, many people quickly parked and gathered to watch. Felicia, wearing sunglasses and a formal gown, appeared to be en route to an event.
