Chapter 579
Agony coursed through Natalie's veins. Memories flooded her mind. She threw her phone aside, letting it ring.
Initially, she'd thought Jeremy would give up. But he persisted. It seemed he wouldn't stop calling until she answered. If she ignored him, he might even come over.
Natalie didn't want to see him.
She answered, "Why did you call?"
Silence followed her icy question. Then Jeremy asked, "You've been drinking, haven't you?"
Natalie frowned. That explained Joe finding Skylar at her place—he'd asked Jeremy. She replied, "I haven't drunk much. If you don't have anything urgent, I have things to attend to."
"Let me come over and take care of you," Jeremy said.
Natalie sat up, shouting, "Jeremy, stop pretending! Don't be selfish. You know me better than anyone; you know how I feel. I can't face you. When I see you, I remember you cheating on me with Annabelle. I can't forget it!"
"Natalie, forgive me. Just this once. I can prove you're misinterpreting what happened. You're the only woman I love," Jeremy said softly.
Natalie's response sounded as if she'd heard a joke. She retorted, "This has destroyed the trust between us. I can forgive you, but I'll never get back together with you. From today on, we can be like siblings, but we can't be married. Can't we separate amicably?"
Jeremy's fingers tightened around his phone. After a long pause, he said, "Impossible. You'll understand later."
Then he hung up before Natalie could respond.
Blood drained from Natalie's face. Why was he so insistent? Why did he want a marriage wrecked by an affair?
On the way back to Galaxy Villa, Skylar slept soundly, her head resting on Joe's lap.
Joe watched Skylar sleep peacefully. He raised an eyebrow. She'd fallen asleep the moment she got in the car. How could she claim she wasn't drunk?
Joe said coldly, "How stubborn."
Lucas sat up straight. Skylar was asleep; why was Joe still angry? He feared Joe would throw her out in a rage.
Joe instructed, "Drive slower."
"Yes, sir," Lucas replied. Joe's mood had shifted instantly. For a second, a storm seemed to brew in his eyes, but then he became concerned about his speed.
Clearly, he worried that Skylar's sleep might be disturbed by fast driving.
Lucas had been driving incredibly slowly. Many cars had overtaken him, and each one looked back, seemingly questioning his driving skills despite his expensive car.
Despite the slow pace, they arrived at Galaxy Villa after forty minutes.
Joe carried Skylar from the car.
"Mr. Martin, I'll open the door," Lucas said, hurrying to help Joe.
They arrived at Galaxy Villa, but Joe didn't want to wake Skylar. He clearly treasured her, though his expressionless demeanor made it difficult for Skylar to see his love.
Lucas felt extremely nervous for Joe.
Before entering, Joe looked at Lucas, seeming to have something to say. He asked, "Do you have anything to tell me?"
Lucas replied, "I do, but I'm not sure it's appropriate."
"Speak."
