Chapter 580

"Mr. Martin," Lucas began, "you don't seem to treat Mrs. Martin well. She may think you don't care. Women appreciate being coaxed and appeased."

He continued, "My wife appreciates thoughtful gestures. I bring her home dinner and a small cake after work each day, and shower her with kind words. A little goes a long way. Perhaps you could show Mrs. Martin similar kindness to make her feel cared for."

Lucas hoped Joe would heed his genuine advice.

Joe raised an eyebrow. "She'll be filled with adoration for cake?" he asked incredulously.

Lucas reminded him sternly, "Mr. Martin, you must also shower her with pleasantries." Gentle treatment was key.

Joe looked down at Skylar in his arms, seemingly considering Lucas's words. Lucas, regretting his unsolicited advice, couldn't read Joe's expression. Joe clearly understood.

"In that caseโ€ฆ I'll take my leave, Mr. Martin," Lucas said hesitantly.

"Alright!" Joe replied, glancing at him.

Lucas immediately left. Joe carried Skylar upstairs and placed her in bed. As he helped her change, she remained motionless and obedient. Most of his rage dissipated. "You should have been obedient all along," he grumbled. "It would have saved us much hassle."

Skylar, seemingly heartless, had drunk herself unconscious. Despite his grumbling, Joe's frown softened as he listened to her calm breathing.

The next day, Skylar awoke with a splitting headache, utterly confused to find herself in Galaxy Villa. A chunk of her memory was missing. Wasn't she at Natalie's? How had she gotten home?

"You're up?" Joe asked from beside her.

"When did you come home?" Skylar asked, glancing at him.

Joe sat up, his rippling muscles on display. "Have you forgotten what happened last night?"

Alarm bells rang in Skylar's head. She had no interest in admiring his physique. "Did something happen last night?" she asked. She hated losing control when she drank, forgetting everything. She had no memory of returning home.

Suddenly, she recalled Joe mentioning he would be home that night before she left his car. But what about her? She couldn't decipher anything from his somber gaze, feeling insecure. Had something really happened?

Though Skylar tried to hide her concern, Joe saw it. He hesitated, then said casually, "You didn't do anything too outlandish. You just held onto me, begging me never to leave, saying you couldn't survive without me, that you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together."

"What?" Skylar exclaimed, surprised. Had she forced promises from him while intoxicated?

Joe gazed at her. "So, does this mean you've fallen for me?"

He awaited her answer, his expression mirroring hers as it shifted. Seeing this, his own countenance fell. He got out of bed. "I was joking," he said, looking away. "I know you won't fall in love with me. Breakfast will be sent over from Pearlhall Residence."
