Chapter 595
Jenny was shocked to see Skylar, Joe, and Gloria snacking on nuts while watching a variety show. Was this the important matter Joe had said he would be dealing with? She crumpled the beautiful bag in her hands.
"Jenny? When did you return to Jipsburg? Come here, and let me take a look at you," Gloria said, looking up and seeing Jenny and Rowan. She waved Jenny over.
Jenny came to her senses, smiled, and walked over, greeting, "Mrs. Martin Senior."
Skylar followed Gloria's gaze, her eyes meeting Jenny's. Skylar smiled and nodded. Jenny's grin froze. She knew Gloria had introduced Skylar to Joe and must have been pleased with her. Theoretically, Jenny understood, but she hadn't met Skylar before. She realized Gloria seemed as gentle and kind with Skylar as any regular grandmother, yet Jenny had been afraid of approaching Gloria since childhood. Skylar carried herself casually with Gloria, seemingly treating the mansion like her home. The more Jenny thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt.
"Mrs. Martin Senior, didn't you see me? I came to visit you a while ago," Rowan teased, walking over. He glanced at Joe and Skylar sitting together. Joe's expression, gentle as he watched Skylar and Gloria chat, was one Rowan had never seen before. Clearly, Joe liked Skylar; he adored her. Joe fixed Rowan with a cold glare, which Rowan noticed. He silently lamented his innocence. How was he to know they were at Pearlhall Residence? If he had known, he would have asked beforehand. It was a coincidence.
"Joe, Skylar," Jenny greeted nonchalantly after sitting down. Joe nodded. Skylar smiled lightly and asked, "Have you just returned from Korel City?"
"I came here immediately after getting off the plane," Jenny answered, trying to maintain her smile, but failing. She offered the beautiful bag to Gloria. "I bought this gift for you. I hope you like it."
"Alright, thank you so much. You've put a lot of thought into this," Gloria said.
Rowan, pitying Jenny's distressed appearance, helped her out. "Won't you take a look? I helped her pick it."
Gloria glanced at him and asked, "Did you help as well?" She opened the bag, took out the necklace, and then observed the glittering diamonds. "The younger generation prefers this," she remarked, smiling. "You've got a great eye for jewelry. I like it very much."
"Why don't I help you put it on?" Jenny asked carefully, wanting to appease Gloria, especially now. She wanted to show Gloria—and Joe—that she could do anything Skylar could.
Gloria smiled and refused. "I've already got a necklace on. It's a rare occasion for all of you to come see me. Let's have lunch here together. Some of you haven't had a meal prepared by our cooks in ages. It's a good day to stay."
