Chapter 598
Skylar couldn't read Joe. She didn't hide her true thoughts, saying honestly, "I'm a bit curious, but I respect your privacy."
He responded as if ready to confide the moment she pressed him. In Skylar's opinion, he wasn't easily manipulated.
Joe's furrowed brows relaxed. "So you were curious."
Curiosity, to him, meant she cared.
"So?" Skylar waited.
"I've kept my promise. She's graduated from university and can support herself. She's no longer my responsibility."
He was completely honest with Skylar. No other woman attracted him. Dozens of naked women had been before him, yet he felt nothing for any of them.
A weight lifted from Skylar's chest. Her heart seemed to restart; she smiled, galaxies shimmering in her eyes.
"Aren't you going to keep calling me Mr. Martin?"
Her repeated use of "Mr. Martin" angered him. The words had never sounded harsher.
"Do you like me calling you 'Mr. Martin'?" Skylar immediately changed tack, her eyes glinting mischievously.
Joe's throat tightened from her flirtation. His gaze darkened.
"Call me darling," he said, pulling her into his embrace.
Skylar's heart pounded. They were too close; she could hear his heartbeat.
"Alright, darling. I'll call you 'darling' no matter where I am." She vowed to call him that until he grew tired of it. If he weren't afraid of revealing their secret marriage, she wouldn't be either.
Joe's gaze darkened further. He lowered his gaze and whispered in her ear, "If you call me darling whenever we're in bed, I'll give you anything you want."
Skylar's heart quickened. They were in a car!
"What can you give me?" She turned to meet his dark gaze.
After a moment's silence, Joe sealed her lips with his. Between kisses, he mumbled, "My everything."
"Including your heart?" Skylar wondered silently. She didn't voice the thought, nor was she given the chance.
Lucas's face flushed as he drove, but he pretended to be deaf and blindโhe could hear and see nothing!
The sun finally emerged after the storm.
Gloria didn't nap long at Pearlhall Residence.
