Chapter 599

Gloria rested for twenty minutes, but sleep evaded her. She asked Edgar to brew a pot of tea.

While she drank, Edgar noticed something was amiss. He asked, "Why do I feel like something's on your mind?"

Gloria had been overjoyed to have Joe and Skylar over; the house had been bustling with activity. However, she felt burdened with worry after they left.

Taking a sip of tea, she frowned. "Did you notice anything from Rowan and Jenny's visit today?"

Edgar was momentarily stunned, then realized what was happening. Heโ€™d been caring for Gloria for decades; his perception had sharpened under her influence, allowing him to sense people's thoughts.

"To be honest, Mrs. Martin Senior," he said, "I can tell Jenny likes Mr. Martin. I didn't think much of it when she was young, but her feelings are evident now that she's grown up. She's clearly jealous of Mrs. Martin. I'm sure you've noticed."

Gloria nodded. "You're right. Skylar is kind and intelligent. How could she miss it? She's definitely sad about it."

"Joe has made his stand clear; he's kept his distance from Jenny. Mrs. Martin probably won't think much of it; only Jenny might feel wronged by Mr. Martin's distance." Although Edgar had remained silent, he'd observed everything.

Gloria harrumphed. "I'll give Joe credit for knowing what to do and what not to. If he dares betray Skylar, I won't let him get away with it. I watched Jenny grow up. She seems naive and trusting, but she gets jealous easily, and that jealousy might cause her to make mistakes. Don't let her hurt Skylar."

"Don't worry, Mrs. Martin Senior. I'm sure Mr. Martin will make the necessary arrangements. And Mrs. Martin won't be easily bullied. If she's treated properly, Skylar will welcome them; if they offend her, she'll attack mercilessly."

Gloria grinned and rolled her eyes. "That description of Skylar is exactly what I like!"

"Take care of your health, Mr. Martin Senior. Mr. and Mrs. Martin will sort things out themselves," Edgar said.

Gloria nodded. "The younger generation has its own brand of happiness. I'll let this go; there's no point in dwelling on it."

A few days later, Austin was removed from several events for absurd reasons. The organizers had begged him to attend multiple times. Hank, a longtime entertainment industry agent, noticed something was amiss.

"Someone is targeting you. They want to ban you from the industry."

Austin, reclined on a couch reading, hadn't been bothered by the three canceled events. He could even guess who was behind it.

Seeing Austin's unconcern, Hank asked, "Do you know something?"

"Don't be nervous. It wouldn't be easy to ban me. Conveniently, I've been exhausted lately; this is a good opportunity for a break. He won't be able to touch my international events and movie roles," Austin said calmly.

Hank pressed on. "Who is it? Give me a hint. I've been in this industry a long time; most people show me deference, yet no one has told me anything. This means the person is powerful in Jipsburg. Hey wait, I think I know who it is. It isn't Jeremy Hughes, is it?"

Austin hummed in acknowledgment.

Hank's eyes widened. "Really? Why would he ban you? Natalie found out about his affair; what does that have to do with you?"

"Initially, nothing. He asked me to fire Natalie, and I refused," Austin said.

Hank swore. "He's too controlling! Is he trying to force Natalie back? I knew she wouldn't divorce him easily. Now he's trying to ban you from the industry! You might not be able to stay in the country!"

Chapter 590 (Note: This should probably be Chapter 600 given the previous chapter numbering)

Austin said calmly, "No, I'll take a rest for now."

"Fuck! You're completely unbothered! I'm the only one worried, am I?" Hank was furious.

As they chatted, neither noticed Natalie standing by the door. They'd forgotten this was their office, not Austin's home.
