Chapter 61

Skylar had a second chance at life, and felt no fear. She had her family and friends' support, so she wasn't afraid of the consequences. Suppressing her pain, she delivered her final words: "I was blinded to try and win your approval, Mrs. Williams. You don't deserve to be my mother."

Sadie stared at the disconnected phone, her ears ringing. Skylar's words echoed in her mind: She doesn't deserve to be her mother? Sadie, Jeffrey's wife, was a respected figure in Jipsburg City. Her three sons were successful, and her daughter, Maisy, was beautiful and accomplished. All Sadie had done was criticize Skylar, the mistakenly adopted daughter. Yet, now Skylar claimed she didn't deserve to be her mother?

Before, Sadie wouldn't have cared, but now she felt disturbed.

Maisy noticed Sadie's frown and grew anxious. "Mom, is Skylar refusing to apologize? Does she still hate me, even after Christopher told his side of the story? If this doesn't work out, I'll confess everything, seek refuge overseas, and let her come home."

Sadie frowned. "Forget her. She's stubborn. Let your brothers handle it. Let's not make a fuss."

Deep down, Maisy was shocked. Why was Sadie trying to appease Skylar? Sadie hadn't rejected Maisy's offer to apologize and leave the country, nor had she reprimanded Skylar. She simply said not to make a fuss. She wants to avoid a fuss? Maisy couldn't believe it.

Unbeknownst to Sadie, Maisy messaged her brothers:

"Skylar called. She's refusing to apologize and was rude to Mom. I feel responsible, so maybe I should admit I was wrong."

Peter: "You can't do that, Maisy. She was wrong."

Kenny: "Leave it to us. Don't worry."

Samuel: "Skylar is so annoying!"

Maisy smiled, satisfied with their replies. After considering it, she posted a photo of herself with the caption, "Truth will speak for itself." Within minutes, supportive comments flooded in. She couldn't wait to see Skylar's next move.

Ten minutes later, Maisy cheerfully applied a sheet mask, planning to shop with friends. She just needed to appear miserable, allowing her brothers to resolve the issue while Skylar's hands were tied, unable to cause further trouble. Even if someone discovered the videos, their PR team would cover it up. She had nothing to fear.

Then, Kenny sent an urgent message:

"Samuel, did PR do their job? There's so much negative news about Maisy online. Wait a second…this video… Maisy, you spent the night with Christopher at a hotel?"
