Chapter 622

Christopher declared, "No other woman compares to Skylar. She's the only one in my heart." His obsession was profound.

"Are you out of your mind? Look how Skylar has already forgotten you! See how she treated me before, and how she treats me now?" Amelia raged, frustrated.

Christopher's lips tightened. "No one can replace Skylar. Mom, I only want Skylar!" His future felt empty without her.

"Skylar is something else entirely! What kind of spell has she cast on you?" Amelia was nearly beside herself.

"I'll make her come back to me," Christopher stated firmly. He would find a way, as long as he could get Joe to give up on Skylar.

It was the weekend. Janine rose early to shop for groceries. Steven, having returned the previous night, offered to help prepare lunch. While selecting vegetables, Janine asked, "Do you know who Skylar is bringing home? It shouldn't be her roommate, right? Could it be her new boyfriend?" Since learning of Christopher's betrayal, Janine worried Skylar might be too afraid to date again. Skylar's suffering deeply pained her; she deserved someone kind.

"It is a new boyfriend. I've met him before, but he was still in the observation phase, so I didn't mention it," Steven revealed readily. Skylar bringing Joe home indicated a serious relationship.

Charles, having just arrived, overheard. He asked Steven, "When did you meet him? Why didn't Skylar tell me?"

Steven replied simply, "Not long ago."

Charles felt a pang of jealousy. "Clearly, I don't hold a special place in Skylar's heart."

"You're always so busy with work and filming. Skylar has always preferred confiding in me anyway. Why are you jealous? Wash the vegetables. Skylar's bringing her boyfriend over today, so everyone should behave and not scare him off."

"Actually, scaring him a little might be good. It could make him think twice about mistreating Skylar later," Janine countered impatiently.

Charles rubbed his nose. Janine had a point. He wasn't truly jealous; he disliked Skylar keeping things from him, much as he preferred confiding in Steven. Given Christopher's actions, he needed to thoroughly assess Skylar's boyfriend. If he seemed unsuitable, Charles would ensure he stayed far away.

Harvey emerged from the restroom, brimming with youthful energy, having overheard the conversation. He declared, "Anyone who mistreats my sister will face my wrath."

"Don't worry. With me and Steven here, no one will bully Skylar," Charles reassured him. Their family, previously unaware of the Williams family's actions toward Skylar, hadn't adequately protected her. That would change. Skylar would be safe.

Janine continued preparing the meal, asking Steven, "What do you think of this guy? How does he compare to Christopher?"

Steven paused. "There's no comparison."

"What?" Janine was startled.

"Mom, you misunderstood. I meant Christopher can't compare to him. You'll understand after meeting him," Steven clarified. He believed no mother-in-law could resist Joe. Many Jipsburg families coveted him as a son-in-law. Since Joe and Skylar's relationship began, Steven had closely monitored Joe, growing increasingly confident in his trustworthiness.

Janine's worries eased. She sighed in relief. "That's good."

Soon, Skylar and Joe arrived at the Yancey residence. Skylar had briefed Joe about her family en route; he was familiar with the situation but listened attentively to her elaboration. Harvey opened the door. Seeing Joe, the usually confident teenager was momentarily speechless. "You're my sister's boyfriend," he finally said.
