Chapter 623

Harvey studied Joe, concluding the other man was more handsome and slightly taller. However, good looks didn't guarantee trustworthiness.

“I’m your brother-in-law, Joe Martin. You must be Harvey?” Joe asked.

Skylar's family was undeniably striking; her brothers were exceptionally good-looking.

Harvey raised an eyebrow at the "brother-in-law" designation and glanced at Skylar. "Skye."

Joe's lips curled into a faint smile. He noted Harvey's stubbornness with quiet amusement. Harvey certainly possessed a strong personality, a trait Joe considered positive.

Embarrassed by Harvey's attitude, Skylar interjected, “Joe and I just got married. You can call him Joe.”

Harvey's eyes widened. “Married? You just got your marriage license?” He couldn't believe Skylar had rushed into marriage without verifying Joe's trustworthiness. It seemed too sudden. Was Joe using his looks to deceive Skylar?

“Yeah,” Skylar replied with a smile.

Harvey remained unconvinced, eyeing Joe suspiciously.

As they spoke, Skylar led Joe inside. The living room was filled with the delicious aroma of food. Janine and Steven were busy in the kitchen, while Charles had just gone to the restroom. Hearing that Skylar had married someone she barely knew and had asked Harvey to address him informally, Charles quickly finished in the restroom and rushed out.

Charles called out, “Skye!” His gaze sharpened upon seeing Joe, the man he believed had deceived Skylar.

“Charles, this is Joe Martin,” Skylar said.

Charles had met Joe before, unaware of their relationship.

“Hello, we’ve met before, but Skye wasn't around then,” Joe said warmly. “I didn’t get a chance to explain our relationship.”

Charles was dumbfounded, his face reddening with humiliation, relieved his earlier concerns had only been voiced to Steven. He had genuinely overthought the situation. Joe's friendly attitude stemmed from Skylar.

“How did you two meet?” Charles asked, regaining his composure but still hesitant to meet Joe's eyes. It wasn't fear, but shame over his previous petty thoughts, prompting him to address Skylar.

Skylar explained, “He’s Gloria Hinman’s grandson. She introduced us.” They knew of the Hinmans' trustworthiness.

Charles was surprised. Janine emerged from the kitchen, her worries eased by Skylar's words.

“Mom,” Skylar greeted her.

Joe turned to Janine and said warmly, “Mom.”

Janine was stunned. Skylar and Joe exchanged a look.
