Chapter 63

“Plus, it all happened too fast. An hour ago, the Williamses were in control. It's only been a few minutes. Look at the situation now. The Williamses must be losing their nerve.”

“This speed is comparable to the Martin Group's PR team.”

Steven didn't know what to say. He read the comments and his friends' analyses, his eyebrows furrowing. He thought about Skylar's calm demeanor and her whereabouts since leaving the Williams residence.

Could it be? Had Christopher's lies and betrayal affected her? Had she found support as a result? Janine had told him Skylar had given her money.

After years of hard work, Steven understood society's corrupting influence. Skylar, a natural beauty, had recently been deceived by Christopher and oppressed by the Williams family.

Would she?

Steven jumped to his feet. His colleagues were shocked by his fierce expression. "Calm down, Steven. Kenny has history here in Jipsburg City. We have no evidence he stole your research paper. Why don't we write a new one? Going against him won't help."

"Everyone knows he stole your paper. He wouldn't dare to challenge you so blatantly again. If it weren't for his family connections, he wouldn't be here."

Steven's face fell. He looked at his colleagues. "I don't plan on meeting him again. He may have stolen my paper, but he can't steal my execution. He won't handle my experiment."

"You scared me! I thought you were going to retaliate," his colleagues breathed a sigh of relief.

Steven picked up his phone to call Skylar, then hesitated. It was all speculation. He decided to ask her out after work to clarify things face-to-face.

Chapter 63

Joe was at Martin Group. After his meeting, he glanced at his phone. Gloria had called earlier while his phone was on silent. He returned her call.

"Any reason you were looking for me, Grandma?"

"What? Do I need a reason to call my grandson? Can't I call you even when nothing's happening?" Gloria grumbled.

Joe heard the energy in her voice and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Of course you can call me anytime, Grandma."

"You don't have to come to the hospital today. Some old friends are visiting with their great-grandchildren. You might embarrass me if you run into them," Gloria said.

Joe, used to her complaints, obliged. "Alright, I won't go."

"You should ask Skye to the hot springs. It's a good opportunity to spend a night at our family's hotel and get to know each other better."

"It'd be even better if you created my future great-grandchild tonight so I can show them off next year," Gloria suggested.

Joe frowned. "I'm swamped with work, Grandma."

"Did Martin Group hire a bunch of trash? You're turning thirty soon. Why aren't you getting down to business?" Gloria demanded.
