Chapter 646
It was Christopher. She hadn't seen him since returning to Jipsburg, though she remembered him from Korel City. He stood before her car, greed gleaming in his eyes as he appraised her. She'd grown even prettier. He'd been watching her for days.
Skylar, once gentle and kind, had become a star on Alexander's team—belonging to another man. It seemed a lifetime ago that they'd shared dreams. She slammed her horn, but he didn't move. He stared intently, trying to coax her from the car.
With no cars behind her, Skylar backed out of her space and prepared to leave. Christopher, however, lunged at her car like a madman. Only her quick braking prevented a collision.
Finally, she opened the door and stepped out. Relief washed over Christopher as he approached.
"Darling, can't you forgive me? It's been so long. I've done things I deeply regret. In Korel City, I had time to reflect. We dreamed big in high school. But I forgot those dreams, and we drifted apart. Life's temptations proved too strong. Now I know what's right. Please forgive me, darling. You'll be the only one I love," he pleaded, his voice genuine. His eyes were red-rimmed, glistening with unshed tears.
Skylar remained unmoved. "Get lost," she spat.
His eyes widened. "Don't you care? Have you forgotten our past? Joe doesn't truly love you; he'll tire of you. When that happens, can we try again? It's not too late! We've both made mistakes, but it doesn't matter. We can still be together!"
Christopher's impassioned plea seemed to move only himself. Skylar remained expressionless. He ceased his appeal, staring coldly. Then, he took a step toward her, intending to embrace and take her away. It was a dark night, secluded and seemingly safe for his intentions.
Just as he was about to reach her, a man appeared from nowhere, delivering a powerful kick that sent Christopher sprawling before he could react.
"Hey!" Skylar cried, terrified. "Who are you? What's wrong with you?"
Christopher, abandoning his charm, engaged in a fight, but he was clearly outmatched and soon found himself on the ground, unable to rise.
