Chapter 664

Skylar nodded softly. Joe gently ruffled her hair and asked, "What kind of wedding do you want?"

Skylar looked surprised. "Are we really going to have a wedding?" She hadn't considered it before; she'd assumed his mention of a wedding was merely a provocation aimed at Edwin and Molly.

"Yes," Joe said, his voice tender. "Don't most women dream of a wedding they'll remember for a lifetime? As my wife, you deserve nothing less." His tone was soft, conveying genuine anticipation.

Skylar replied quietly, "I'll need to think about it."

"Any thoughts or requests, just let me know," Joe said. Their conversation drifted toward wedding plans, his demeanor softening further. Unnoticed by both, they eventually fell asleep.

That night, Edwin and Molly remained agitated long after returning home.

"Darling," Molly said, "given Joe's attitude toward Skylar today, confronting him might backfire. His words seemed mild, but they were likely a warning. He probably has incriminating evidence against us."

Edwin remained stern. "No matter what, I'm still his father. I won't worry about him. I'll do what needs to be done." He believed nothing Joe did could diminish his role as a father.

Molly nodded. "Alright." In the darkness, a grim determination filled her eyes. If Joe truly cared for Skylar, she would prevent him from achieving his desires. Years of difficulties and humiliations at Joe's hands fueled her resolve. And there was Gloria, who hadn't accepted her. She wouldn't allow Joe and Skylar to live comfortably.

The next morning, Skylar and Joe had breakfast at the hotel before visiting the hospital. Gloria had just awakened. Seeing them, she smiled warmly. "I'm fine. You two don't need to worry."

Her health was declining, and a recent argument with her son had caused her to faint. This worried Joe and Skylar.

"Mrs. Martin Senior just had chicken soup, and Dr. Colon has checked on her. There's no need for concern," Edgar reassured them.

Seeing Gloria's improved condition eased Skylar's worries. "It's good that Grandma is fine," she said.

Earlier that morning, Dr. Gavin Colon had called Joe to explain Gloria's condition. While her fainting spell was heart-related, it stemmed primarily from a surge of anger. Since she'd arrived at the hospital promptly, there was no cause for significant alarm.

"Did your father come by last night? Did you two argue again?" Gloria asked Joe, who wore a somber expression. Although Edgar hadn't mentioned it, she knew she'd fainted while speaking with Edwin. Despite his disloyalty, Edwin would still visit the hospital. Father and son were practically enemies, their conflicts stemming from past events.

Gloria sighed.

Joe spoke calmly, "It's normal for us to argue whenever we meet. Don't worry about it." In his mind, having a father or not made little difference; he might as well be dead.

Skylar quietly peeled an apple, its faint scent counteracting the hospital's disinfectant odor.
