After shouting, Amelia quickly turned and ran away, a pang of guilt seizing her. Caleb’s face darkened, his lips pursed. He found Christopher disgusting, but his mother was even worse.

Skylar had no idea what happened after she left. Amelia’s appearance had little impact; it was merely another display of their shamelessness, briefly surprising her.

Arriving at the hospital, she saw Paul holding two large takeout bags bearing a hotel logo. He had just collected them.

“Mrs. Martin,” Paul greeted her.

Skylar smiled. “You bought so much?”

“Not really, the boxes just look big,” Paul replied.

They walked to the ward without further comment. Skylar noticed others besides Joe and Edgar. She paused at the door.

Jenny, hearing them, looked up. Her expression shifted upon seeing Skylar, and she greeted them brightly: “Skylar, Paul.”

Gloria, experienced in observing human interactions, immediately noted Skylar’s polite yet distant demeanor and understood the situation. Skylar’s intelligence and kindness made it impossible for her to be unaware of Jenny’s feelings for Joe. Gloria glanced at her restless grandson.

Joe was puzzled by Gloria’s look, wondering if she was even more displeased with him. He then approached Skylar, taking her hand. Examining it, he raised an eyebrow. “Why is your hand so cold?”

Skylar smiled faintly. “I just washed my hands.” Her hands had always been cold; since her fainting spell, Joe had consistently noticed this.

Jenny felt sad, witnessing their closeness and the warmth in Joe’s gaze. She wondered if his focus was solely on Skylar now, even more attentive than at their last meeting at the villa. Perhaps Gloria's presence influenced him.

“I came to see you because I miss you, Grandma,” Skylar said honestly, needing reassurance about Gloria’s recovery.

Joe said nothing, his dark eyes fixed on Skylar, his thoughts unreadable.

“Mrs. Martin Senior is just worried about how hard Joe works. I’ve been at the company these past few days, and I’ve seen firsthand how demanding Joe’s job is,” Jenny interjected.
