Chapter 692
Edwin retorted fiercely, yet his heart skipped a beat. How could Joe so readily expose the truth? Joe had hoped Edwin could be a good man and father, but he'd expected too much. A leopard never changes its spots.
The answer was clear. "You were behind this," Joe stated.
Edwin's expression shifted, surprised by Joe's certainty. "What nonsense? Why these ridiculous accusations in the middle of the night? If you have nothing else to say, leave."
"I'm going to bed," Molly mumbled, avoiding Joe's gaze. Joe's words suggested he suspected their involvement in Skylar's kidnapping. They couldn't contact the men; Molly felt a rising panic.
"Do you think you'll sleep? You plotted to kidnap my wife," Joe said coldly, his words piercing Molly's heart.
Edwin stood, roaring, "What are you talking about?"
Molly paled. Joe wasn't here to question them; he possessed evidence of their wrongdoing, here to exact his revenge. Evidence… She hadn't contacted the men. Had something happened?
Joe was no longer the rebellious boy; a few words and a stare now instilled fear. He glanced at Molly; the remaining color drained from her face. Terrified of revealing too much, she remained silent. Open discussion was impossible. Sweat beaded on her back, but she soon calmed, realizing their haste. They should have waited for the storm to pass; they'd underestimated Skylar's importance to Joe, and to herself. She was just a country girl. How did she know Aiken?
Joe lit a cigarette. "Two choices," he demanded. "One: I bring some men, we set up cameras, and Molly puts on a show. Two: You both face the consequences, confessing to your crimes and making headlines for a week."
"What did you say?" Molly and Edwin asked simultaneously.
Disgust flickered in Joe's eyes. He stared at Edwin. "You could join in. I'll see how you betrayed my mother." Edwin's embarrassment turned to rage. He shook, shouting, "You're crazy! I'm your father! Why this fit? Because of a country girl? Have you lost your mind?"
Molly stumbled, staring at Joe in horror.
