Chapter 691
Simona sprinted to Aiken, urgently asking about Skylar. He reassured her, “Don’t worry. We’ve found her. Skylar is fine. You can visit her at the hospital when she’s able.”
“That’s wonderful! I knew you’d succeed! I’m so relieved. I’ll tell Caleb. Mr. Gardner Senior has been extremely worried.”
Molly checked the time. Why hadn’t she received the video? Had they been too preoccupied?
Edwin asked, finding Molly frowning downstairs, “Have you gotten the video?”
Molly shook her head. “They haven’t sent it. I’ll call them.”
For some reason, Molly felt intensely nervous after Aiken’s call. She sensed something was about to happen. Edwin felt the same.
Molly called, but received no answer. A second attempt yielded the same result.
“What’s going on?” Edwin asked.
Molly, striving for composure, replied, “They’re not answering. I’m unsure what’s happened.” Even if they’d been… involved with Skylar, they wouldn't ignore her calls. They weren't that unreliable.
“They’re not answering?” Edwin frowned. They’d faced many challenges together; he had a bad feeling.
As Molly prepared to call again, a helper announced Joe’s arrival. They exchanged a worried glance. His visit at this hour suggested he’d learned something.
“Hmph. He’s here to question me about Skylar, isn’t he? His behavior is increasingly despicable,” Edwin sighed.
Molly was less certain. “Darling, let’s not meet him now. We can talk tomorrow.”
Edwin, sensing her guilt, said, “Don’t worry. I’m his father. He has to respect me. Even with half the Martins’ power, he can’t do anything to us.”
Molly disagreed, suspecting a more complex reason for Joe’s visit, though it was only a guess. Joe couldn't have found Skylar so quickly, even with informants. And even if they hadn’t been in Jipsburg for years, Joe wouldn’t have become so powerful so fast.
As Molly pondered this, the helper brought Joe in. The cold clung to his clothes.
Edwin said, “It’s been a long time since we’ve been home. Only thinking of visiting us today?”
Joe glared, ignoring Edwin’s sarcasm. “Did you ask her to do it?” He looked at Molly, who tensed.
Edwin retorted, “What do you mean? Do you even see me as your father?”
