Chapter 694
Edwin and Molly believed they had done nothing wrong; everyone else was a sinner. They held firm to this belief.
Skylar, however, knew she'd made a mistake. Had she simply withdrawn from the challenge and left after accepting the check, this wouldn't have happened. She alone bore the responsibility.
Edwinโs conviction only strengthened with reflection. Joeโs threat to Molly was a senseless act of rebellion; a roar to stop made little sense. Edwin glared at Joe, surprised by his aggression; he'd believed their relationship held far more weight. Even if Joe hated him, he wouldn't have defied Edwin's wishes.
As Joe neared the doorway, Edwin yelled, "Stop!" Molly's heart pounded; it felt as if it would burst from her chest. She wouldn't let Joe destroy them.
"It seems you've decided," Joe said, glancing at his watch. "One more minute. No more nonsense; I want your answer."
Edwin felt nauseous, livid with rage. Molly nearly swore. Thankfully, they maintained their composure.
"What evidenceโ" Edwin began, but Joe walked out.
Edwin felt suffocated by anger, his face contorted in frustration. He sighed. "I won't choose," he finally said. "I bless you and Skylar. I won't interfere. I'll even put in a good word for her if our family members askโyou know how bothersome they can be."
The choices offered were a mere jest. Molly sighed, momentarily believing Edwin would appease Joe with the first option. But Joe chuckled, turning back to Molly. "I've changed my mind. You have only one option."
Molly was horrified. "You're mad!" she exclaimed.
In the hospital, Skylar felt disoriented, caught between reality and dreams. The hospital room seemed surreal. Why wasn't she still in the warehouse? Had she lost too much blood? Was this a hallucination?
She thought she'd seen Joe. Just before losing consciousness, he'd appeared. Was she dreaming? Then, Paul's face emerged.
Glee lit up Paul's expression. "Mrs. Martin is awake!" he exclaimed.
"She's awake? Let me see," Howard said, rising from his doze on the couch and hurrying to the bed.
Skylar heard their familiar voices. Looking at Paul, she asked slowly, "Did youโฆsave me?"
It hadn't been a dream. It had happened.
"Yes," Paul replied immediately. "Mr. Martin saved you. We've apprehended the men. Your wounds have been treated. Thankfully, we arrived in time." Arrived in timeโฆ
