Chapter 710
Jeremy returned to Hughes Residence, canceling all his appointments for the day. He tossed the divorce decree into a drawer, his expression darkening. He leaned back in his chair, massaging his throbbing temples. The tension eased briefly, but upon retrieving the decree, the word "divorce" glared at him, tightening his lips.
The memory of their wedding day remained vivid: They had stood side by side, smiling, their happiness palpable. Their future had seemed unshakeable. Yet, less than a year later, that marriage certificate was replaced with this decree. An idea struck him, and he dialed a number. "Keep investigating Austin," he ordered. "I want everythingโhis past, secrets, any women involved with him." This divorce was a temporary inconvenience. He hadn't intended to let Natalie go; the divorce decree would eventually be replaced with a marriage certificate. Natalie was, and always would be, the only woman for him.
Natalie arrived at the event venue as Austin was having his hair and makeup done. She had brought sugar-free chocolates, knowing Austin often went without food for hours during such events. The chocolates would provide a quick energy boost. Male celebrities, unlike their female counterparts, had it easier; some women barely ate all day to fit into their gowns, leaving them exhausted. Having eaten little herself, Natalie found a quiet spot, sipping soda and nibbling cake to quell her hunger. She indulged in these small pleasures, a necessary treat given her demanding work schedule.
As she enjoyed her cake, Hank entered. After speaking briefly with Austin about last-minute details, he sat beside Natalie. He reached for her soda and took a sip. Something clicked. His eyes widened, and he turned to Natalie, astonishment etched on his face. "Are you drinking soda? And eating cake?"
His rapid-fire questions caught Austin's attention. He glanced at Natalie, his gaze darkening. Natalie was bewildered. "What's wrong with soda and cake?" She had done this before without incident. Their surprise was inexplicable; it was as if she'd done something inappropriate. She wondered if Hank feared Austin might be tempted. Austin had never shown interest in food, even outside events; she had chosen items she knew he wouldn't consume.
Austin finished his drink and stared at Natalie. He lowered his voice. "Aren't you pregnant? Didn't your doctor advise you on what to avoid? Junk food like this should be off-limits during pregnancy."
Natalie was stunned. "Who's pregnant?"
"You, of course. Aren't you pregnant?" Hank said. He realized something was amissโwhy didn't Natalie know she was pregnant? Confusion reigned as Hank looked at Austin, sensing a misunderstanding.
