Chapter 74

Sadie called Janine several times, but there was no answer. She didn't know Janine had blocked her number after the incident at the hotel. Sadie could make the call, but received no response.

"They must have planned this!" Sadie's face contorted with anger. If not for her manners, she would have thrown her phone.

Just then, Jeffrey called. After speaking with him, Sadie felt relieved. She said to Maisy, "Let's go shopping today. Your dad said he'll take you to Martin Group tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" Maisy exclaimed, standing abruptly.

"Yes, that's what your dad said," Sadie confirmed.

Samuel added excitedly, "Maisy, I'll pay for your clothes and jewelry today."

"Thank you, Samuel," Maisy replied.

Christopher had been asking around, but no one knew Skylar's whereabouts. Due to the online situation reversal, many friends sympathized with him, believing he was being victimized by a persistent woman. Anyone with information was willing to tell Christopher.

However, Christopher had no choice but to contact Natalie, Skylar's best friend. Perhaps she knew Skylar's location.

Natalie, busy making soup, didn't check the caller ID.

"Hello, Natalie. It's Christopher."

"Who is this?" Natalie asked, setting down her ladle.

"Christopher, Skylar's boyfriend. We've met before…"

"I've met many people. Who are you? Besides, Skylar doesn't have a boyfriend!" Natalie hung up.

Glancing at her caller ID, she clicked her tongue. "Disgusting jerk." She blocked his number. A scumbag like him didn't deserve to be in her contacts. The idea of him finding Skylar through her was ridiculous.

Skylar worked late, catching up on several days' worth of missed work until 5:00 p.m. When she left, Caleb offered her a glass of water. "Here's some water."

Skylar gratefully accepted. "It's 5:00 p.m. Why haven't you left yet?"

"I'm waiting to leave with you."

Smiling at his gaze, she asked, "Is there something you want to say?"

Caleb blinked. "Is it that obvious?"

He did have something to say, but didn't know how to bring it up.

"You usually leave by now. Spit it out," Skylar said, fond of Caleb.

Caleb, never one to hide his feelings, blurted out, "I saw online that your ex-boyfriend seems to have been wronged. Are you going to get back together with him? It takes two to tango. Even if he was pursued, he wasn't firm enough in rejecting her. Otherwise, how could he have been kissed so easily?"

Christopher's previous accusations of Skylar being overly suspicious had led Caleb to believe Christopher wasn't worthy of her.
