Chapter 747
"If you have anything else to say, I'll pass it on to Mr. Martin," Paul offered.
Jenny hadn't celebrated her birthday with friends. She'd wasted her time waiting for Joe in the basement parking lot. Paul couldn't decipher her. She seemed oblivious to her current predicament. Even as siblings, shouldn't she have maintained distance? Jenny, a smart woman, should have known better. Her pallor was noticeable. She shook her head. "No need," she murmured.
She'd refused numerous invitations, wanting only Joe's company. In the endโฆ
Paul watched her leave, speechless. He started to speak, but ultimately decided against it. Jenny needed to sort things out herself.
Approaching his car, he heard her on the phone, addressing someone as "Mrs. Martin." Could it be Molly? Jenny likely knew about Joe, Edwin, and Molly's antagonistic relationship. There was no reason for Jenny to contact Molly. Despite her poor judgment, she was intelligent. Dismissing his suspicions as a mishearing, Paul got in his car and drove away.
Skylar received a notification of a new follower. Lately, several elderly people, connected through Alexander, had contacted her, requesting antique restoration. She readily approved.
Just before bed, Janine called. "Skye, I need to tell you something. Sadie's in the hospital, dying. They couldn't reach you, so they called me. Do you want to see her?"
Skylar paused. "Which hospital?"
Minutes later, changed and downstairs, she encountered Joe, arriving home.
"Going out?" he asked.
Skylar, noticing his sportswear, explained, "Yes, to the hospital."
Joe glanced at her, then towards the door. "Are you sick? I'll drive."
"It's Sadie. She's dying, probably before tonight," Skylar replied. There was no affection between them, but as her mother, Skylar would pay her last respects.
Joe nodded, putting on his shoes. "I'll go with you."
Skylar, gathering her bag, paused. "Peter and Samuel are there too. They're acting like gangsters. Wait at home; don't let them upset you."
Their eyes met. She turned to the door, but Joe grabbed her wrist.
"I'm going," he stated firmly. He suspected she was avoiding him, wanting him out of her life.
Skylar sighed. "Fine, let's go."
They took Skylar's new car, Joe driving. After some time, he asked, "Why did you buy a new car? Don't you like one at home?"
