Chapter 760
As Janine attempted to stand, she wobbled and almost fell. Someone nearby caught her. Once she steadied herself, she scanned the area, but the familiar figure she thought she had seen was gone.
โWhat happened?โ the person beside her asked.
Janine appeared dazed. โNothing. I thought I saw someone I knew, but it was probably a mistake.โ
Just then, Skylar emerged from the doctorโs office. โMom, Iโm going to get the medication,โ Skylar said.
โOkay, go ahead,โ Janine replied.
Skylar, absorbed in the medical instructions, didnโt notice Janineโs slight shift in mood. When Skylar returned with the medication, Janine seemed to have recovered.
Skylar drove Janine home and decided to stay for a few days. As soon as Janine realized this, she swiftly refused. โThe fridge is stocked. Even with one leg out of commission, I can manage. You should go back and not worry Joe unnecessarily.โ
โMom, you need proper care for your broken leg. I canโt leave you,โ Skylar insisted, texting Joe to explain her intention to stay at the Yancey Residence for a few days.
Janine was well aware of Skylarโs stubbornness. Once she decided on something, persuading her was nearly impossible. So, Janine reluctantly agreed.
When Joe arrived at Pearhall Residence, he noticed a visitor. He asked the household staff, โWhoโs here?โ
โItโs Ms. Ruell.โ
โMs. Ruell?โ he echoed, a puzzled frown creasing his brow.
Upon entering, he saw Vera chatting happily with Gloria. She turned when she heard him. With a smile, she greeted, โJoe.โ
Their unexpected meeting surprised them both. Vera had primarily come to speak with Gloria but hadn't had the chance, as Joeโs arrival interrupted her. Given his presence, discussing her reason for visiting wouldn't be appropriate. She decided to save it for another time.
Gloria wasnโt surprised to see Joe alone, knowing Skylar had other commitments. Yet, she felt slightly displeased by Skylarโs absence, questioning the purpose of her grandson's visit.
Half an hour later, Joe and Vera left separately.

Gloria was troubled. โWhy did Vera come back now?โ
โAre you worried about Mr. Martin?โ Edgar asked.
Gloria nodded. โFor years, Joe hasnโt let many people get close, and itโs because of her. Even though Joe hasnโt mentioned it, as his grandmother, I can tell.โ
โSo, does Ms. Ruellโs visit mean she wants to be with Joe? And where does Mrs. Martin fit in?โ Edgar asked, frowning. He was relieved Skylar wasnโt present; explaining Veraโs visit would have been difficult.
โJoe would never neglect Skye,โ Gloria said firmly.
Edgar agreed. โYes, Mr. Martin would never do anything to hurt Mrs. Martin. Besides, I believe heโs grown quite fond of her. Their relationship has progressed well, and Ms. Ruell has been away from Jipsburg for years. Back then, Mr. Martin was still young. Nowโฆ we shouldnโt worry too much.โ
โItโs impossible not to worry,โ Gloria replied, her voice heavy with concern. โDo they think I donโt know about the prenuptial agreement?โ
Edgar struggled to find comforting words.
โVera visited me today, and it wasnโt just a casual visit. Before Joe arrived, she likely had something to discuss with me,โ Gloria added.
Edgar was surprised. โWhat do you think she wanted to talk about?โ
Gloria shook her head. โShe didnโt get a chance today, but sheโll find another time.โ
โYes, she will,โ Edgar agreed.
