Chapter 761

Gloria sighed softly. "I hope Joe and Skye get along. If they do, I'll be at ease." Edgar nodded. "They will, I'm sure. They both seem to be doing well."

Vera's car sat by the roadside under a streetlight. She inspected the front, catching sight of Joe's car in her peripheral vision. Her vehicle was hard to miss, even at night, and as she expected, Joe pulled up beside her. They hadn't been able to talk at Pearlhall Residence.

Joe remained in his car. Lucas exited and approached. "Ms. Ruell, is something wrong with your car?"

Vera's posture tightened, her expression rigid. Her eyes flicked toward her car, wondering why Joe wasn't getting out.

Lucas, thinking the wind might have carried his words away, repeated, "Ms. Ruell, is your car having trouble? Let me take a look."

"It's probably broken down," Vera replied vaguely, wondering if Joe was trying to avoid suspicion. The distance from Pearlhall Residence was considerable.

Lucas began inspecting the car. Meanwhile, Joe remained in his car, eyes on his phone, a WhatsApp conversation with Skylar displayed on the screen. Looking up, he saw Vera walking toward him.

She tapped twice on his window, signaling him to lower it. He complied.

Vera said apologetically, "It seems I'll need a ride. My car can't be fixed immediately."

Just then, Lucas approached. "Mr. Martin, I can't repair Ms. Ruell's car."

Joe replied, "Alright, get in."

As Vera reached for the door, Lucas opened the passenger seat. "Please, Ms. Ruell."

Vera's expression stiffened momentarily, but she quickly recovered her composure. "Okay, thank you."

A nearby camera captured the scene.

"Finally, we've got a shot of the Martin Group CEO's rumored affair." "That woman is Vera Ruell, the young lady from the Ruell family who recently returned from abroad." "What a perfect match!" "This news will definitely make headlines."

Skylar and Janine watched TV together. After chatting, Janine sighed about Sadie's death at Peter's hands. She thought of Maisy but avoided mentioning her to Skylar.

After all, Maisy's path was her own. Janine could only hope for the best, wishing Maisy a better future.

Skylar's favorite family drama played on the television. The scene showed a father, absent for over a decade, returning home frail and unwell. His stunned and resentful wife and children refused to accept him. Abandoned by his former mistress, the father was alone, haunted by memories of the family he had forsaken.

"Skye, if it were you, do you think you could forgive him?" Janine asked, her thoughts returning to the vague figure she'd seen at the hospital.
