Chapter 773

“Not yet, Skylar,” Jenny said defiantly. “Do you think I’m so easily manipulated? Are you happy now that Joe is distancing himself from me?”

“I’ll tell you something,” Jenny spat. “You won’t be laughing in the end. You two are bound to divorce sooner or later!” If she couldn’t have Joe, neither could Skylar.

Skylar’s response was icy. “Whether I laugh in the end remains to be seen. But Jenny, you won’t even get that chance. Delusions are a sickness; you should get that checked. And by the way, I don’t like you.”

Skylar ended the call and put her phone away. She understood Jenny’s youth and impulsiveness, but the constant drama was taxing her patience. Jenny had probably clashed with Joe earlier and was now lashing out. Skylar found Jenny pathetic.

A few minutes later, as Skylar went downstairs to clock out, her phone rang. It was Natalie, not Jenny.

“Skye, guess where I am?” Natalie’s voice bubbled with excitement.

Skylar smiled. “Where?”

“I’m at your place! I came to see Ms. Yancey and brought tons of groceries. You’ll have a hot meal waiting when you get home. Hurry back!”

Skylar stopped. “You’re really at my place?”

“When have I ever lied? Hurry! I’m heading to the kitchen.”

Skylar was surprised. They’d only exchanged a few texts earlier; Natalie had mentioned visiting Janine soon, but Skylar hadn’t expected her so quickly.

The mouthwatering aroma of food greeted Skylar when she opened her door. Despite her exuberance and black-and-white worldview, Natalie was an excellent cook.

Janine commented, “Natalie’s cooking is incredible. I offered to help, but she insisted on doing everything herself. If she weren’t married, I’d love to have her as a daughter-in-law.”

Janine’s admiration was clear, though Skylar hadn’t mentioned Natalie’s divorce. Now wasn’t the time to bring it up.

Skylar smiled. “My brothers have always been career-focused.” Janine had been troubled by Steven and Annie’s recent issues.

“Well, a strong career focus isn’t a bad thing,” Janine mused, reflecting on Steven’s past tumultuous relationships. She believed love couldn’t be rushed; when the time was right, everything would fall into place.

Skylar entered the kitchen, where Natalie was still cooking. Hearing Skylar, Natalie looked up. “You’re back already? No traffic?”

“The roads were clear. Is there more cooking to be done?” Skylar asked.

“Just the last dish. You can wait in the living room,” Natalie replied.

“Okay,” Skylar said.

After dinner, an hour later, Skylar and Natalie strolled leisurely around the complex, a small, cozy area filled with elderly residents.

“If something’s bothering you, talk to me,” Natalie said, her concern evident. She’d recently learned unsettling news—Joe and Vera were high school classmates, and Vera had been Joe’s past love. The paparazzi photos seemed orchestrated by Joe himself. Natalie believed it must be true; there had been no recent news about Skylar and Joe despite their marriage.
