Chapter 787
Edwin had to be a pervert; he wouldn't have inflicted that upon her otherwise. What a madman!
Suddenly, a notification appeared on Jenny's phone: one million dollars had been transferred into her account. Edwin had also texted her, expressing his satisfaction with her performance.
Jenny trembled, seized by anger and fear. Helplessness washed over her. Would she have to deal with Edwin for the rest of her life? No. She wouldn't. Jenny refused to endure that torturous experience again; it would break her.
"Mr. Martin," she said, "I can't bear it. I can't do this. This will be the last time I meet with you."
She waited, anticipating his response, but instead received a video depicting her deplorable acts with Edwin at the mansion while half-conscious. Why was there a video? Jenny panicked. These videos could not be seen by anyone else; if they were, she was finished.
Her fingers trembled as she typed, "I'm sorry, Mr. Martin. I'll come whenever you call. I'll do anything you ask. Please delete that video! I'm scared someone else might see it."
"Remember what you're saying now," he replied. "When you're obedient enough, I'll delete the video."
His response rendered Jenny helpless. She buried her head in her hands and sobbed. She'd made a terrible mistake, and she knew it. She shouldn't have sought Edwin out.
At Galaxy Villa, Skylar prepared dinner; she'd left work early. Just as she finished, Joe arrived home. Instead of changing, he entered the kitchen and asked, "Do you need any help?"
"I'm done," Skylar replied.
Joe took a plate from her and carried it for her. Their dinners together usually consisted of simple, homemade dishes.
Halfway through, Skylar said, "I think we need to discuss some issues in our relationship."
Joe furrowed his brows. "What problems do you think there are?" he asked. Did she want a divorce?
"The fate of our marriage was sealed from the start," Skylar began. "Grandma's health makes her vulnerable to shocks. I know you're staying in this marriage for her. I also know you don't like meโ"
Before she could finish, Joe interrupted, "Don't blame me."
She claimed he didn't like her. But did she like him? He sensed she wanted to leave him as soon as possible.
Skylar froze, her face falling. She realized a measured conversation was impossible. "Shouldn't you take the blame?" she said coldly. "If you weren't so eager for a divorce, why would you let the media capture footage of you and Vera repeatedly?"
She couldn't continue eating. Standing up, she said, "Even though our marriage was a contract, that doesn't mean you can disregard my dignity, nor can yourโฆ friend. I'm proposing a divorce. I'm prepared."
Joe clenched his jaw, standing as well. "What's going on between Vera and me isn't what you think. I've already told you not to blame me for that."
