Chapter 788
Skylar was enraged by Joe's explanation. What was he implying by insisting she was the one who wanted a divorce? Then she understood.
"Alright," she said, "I'll wait for you to bring up divorce. I won't be home for the next few weeks. Call if you need anything."
Joe was likely bothered she'd suggested divorce before he had the chance. Skylar found further conversation unnecessary. She put on her shoes and left.
He remained silent, jaw clenched. The slamming door was followed by the clatter of his cup against the table.
Only after leaving Galaxy Villa did Skylar realize night had fallen. She had only her bag and phone.
A cold breeze calmed her. She'd been too impulsive. Thinking of his attitude, her heart sank. Still, she'd said what needed saying. She decided to stay in a hotel for the night and move out of Galaxy Villa tomorrow. It wasn't a bad idea.
The next day, Skylar applied for leave. First, she rented an apartment. Then, she returned to Galaxy Villa to pack. She'd splurged in recent months and needed time to tidy up. She'd unknowingly come to consider Galaxy Villa home, a stark contrast to her initial feelings. Looking at the familiar dรฉcor, a weight settled on her shoulders.
Her relationship with Joe was doomed. He likely saw them as two lonely people comforting each other.
Skylar felt a tingling in her nose, sniffled, and worked faster. That afternoon, she went straight to work. Alexander summoned her to his office.
Cameron greeted her, surprising Skylar. "Mr. Yates Senior," she said.
He smiled and nodded. "Did you sleep poorly? You look exhausted."
"Yes," Skylar agreed. "I didn't fall asleep until the early hours." The hotel bed was too soft, and a whirlwind of thoughts kept her awake.
"I'm here to see you," Cameron said. "Alexander told me about recent events. I'm insecure and want you to examine my antique collection. I've acquired many pieces, and perhaps a negative item is among them."
"Could we reschedule for next month? My mother fractured her fibula and needs care," Skylar explained, understanding his anxiety. Too many unexplained negative occurrences instilled panic; someone was manipulating events.
Cameron nodded. "Alright."
"Have Caleb accompany you; he can learn from you," Alexander instructed. "I have a friend at a museum. Next week, please help deliver two antiques for an exhibit."
"Okay."
Before leaving work, Simona invited Skylar to her birthday party. Only Caleb would be there. Aiken had pressing afternoon matters and sent a gift. Learning of Skylar's invitation, however, he postponed his work.
Simona joked on the phone, "You're treating Skylar awfully well. Do you have a crush on her?"
After a pause, Aiken said, "Don't be absurd. She's married."
"Oh," Simona replied.
What a pity Skylar was married.
