Chapter 802
Caleb's tone was urgent. "Finally, you called back! I've tried reaching you several times. I only realized this morning you hadn't returned to the hotel. Where are you now? We have a flight at 3:00 p.m. I'll come find you."
Skylar briefly explained her situation with Joe, who was at a different hotel. She told Caleb to head straight to the airport; she would meet him there that afternoon. She then called Aiken. He didn't answer, likely due to being busy.
Skylar put down her phone and noticed Joe watching her. "I'm planning to finish breakfast, then visit a nearby specialty store and head to the airport. Youโฆ"
Joe stared at her. "I have a flight at 3:00 p.m. as well. We can go to the specialty store together later."
"Really?" Skylar was surprised.
Joe nodded. He had overheard her conversation with Caleb and instructed Paul to reschedule his flight to match hers. It had originally been scheduled two hours later.
A few minutes later, Aiken called back. Skylar put down her cutlery and answered.
"How's Mr. Martin?" Aiken asked directly, referring to Joe's condition.
Joe's expression was cold, his eyes distant. Aiken's impatience was evident, even though they were not yet divorced. Skylar, meanwhile, maintained a smile throughout her call. Engrossed, she didn't notice Joe's change in expression. "His fever has gone down. He's feeling better today."
"That's good. Make sure you take care of yourself as well. Call me if you need anything."
"Alright, thank you."
The call was brief. After ending it, Skylar noticed Joe's displeasure.
"Are you not feeling well again? Still have cold symptoms?"
Joe sneered. "Do you know anything about Aiken?"
Skylar was taken aback. "Why do you ask?" She knew Aiken but hadn't delved deeply into his character.
"You're divorcing me because of Aiken, aren't you? Even if I agree to the divorce, you should stay away from him. He's not right for you," Joe said, his voice low and cold.
Skylar's expression cooled. She felt the most unfamiliar person was Joe, her bedmate for months. "You know better than I do why we're getting divorced. There's no need to elaborate. Aiken and I are just friends. But you can think whatever you like."
Joe's face darkened. Both were tense. Fortunately, Gloria called. Skylar's expression softened as she spoke with her.
After breakfast, Joe finally spoke again. "We'll discuss the divorce when we're back in Jipsburg. This isn't the right time."
Skylar agreed readily. "Just set the time."
Skylar's indifferent attitude only angered Joe further. He felt a tightness in his throat, finding it difficult to breathe. She was being too heartless.
It was 2:00 p.m. when Caleb saw Joe with Skylar at the airport. He discreetly rolled his eyes. They had been on the same flight arriving, and now they were on the same flight departing. Joe wasn't here for business; it seemed he was clinging to Skylar.
"Skylar told me you were sick. How come I didn't notice? Have you already recovered so quickly?" Caleb asked bluntly.
Joe's gaze was icy. "How can you speak to your elder like that?"
"We're peers, okay?" Caleb replied, forcing a smile as his confidence wavered.
"Wait, is that Aiken?" Caleb's eyes widened, looking past Skylar and Joe.
