Chapter 835

Molly awoke from her stupor. Realizing Joe had taken the pendant, a thought struck her. "He hasn't picked up on Mat's activities, has he? Do you think he might have found the fountain pen we gave Jenny for him?"

Edwin had forgotten all about it. At Molly's reminder, he paled, then slowly calmed. "I don't think so," he replied. "If he had, he wouldn't have settled for just taking my pendant. Losing it was my fault. I forgot we were in Jipsburg; I let it slip that I was searching for it. It was only a matter of time."

Joe was the bane of his existence.

"Now what? He'll destroy the pendant," Molly fretted. "Have you forgotten what the master said? Only by wearing it for extended periods will Joe's power diminish. Then you'll rule the Martins. No one will rival your power." She frowned.

Edwin inhaled deeply. "I've worn it for years. Have you seen Joe weaken? On the contrary, he's strengthened his position within the Martin family. Perhaps it's a psychological effect."

Molly was stunned. Edwin had always treasured the emerald pendant. He wouldn't have dismissed it as a mere psychological trick. Since returning to Jipsburg, things had spiraled out of control.

She looked at Edwin. He seemed unconcerned about the loss of the pendant; the fury in his eyes had subsided. A few months prior, the master had predicted Joe wouldn't last long. Yet, Joe seemed perfectly fine; nothing suggested he was near death. Even early photographs depicted him as grimmer than he appeared now.

Suddenly, Molly thought of Skylar. Her presence had altered what Molly believed to be a fixed situation. All the Jipsburg families should have been in chaos, but they weren't. Many negative items had been destroyed. A Doherty family member had told her Skylar had helped them. Skylar was so young; was she truly that capable?

"Enough," Edwin said. "If it's gone, so be it. We still have the fountain pen. It's in Joe's office. Hopefully, it will harm him, but if not, there's nothing we can do." He couldn't explain his sudden lack of concern. It was inexplicable.

Molly paled, clenching her fists. Her efforts would be wasted if this plan failed. But there was still the fountain pen; it was hidden securely. There would be no accidents. Skylar handled the emerald pendant on their return to Galaxy Villa.

"I have a suggestion," Skylar said, glancing at Joe, whose jaw was clenched.

"Do tell," Joe replied, the chill in his eyes lessening.

Skylar proposed, "Put surveillance on them. I think they know the person behind the negative items we're seeking, and they've likely interacted repeatedly."

Joe nodded. "I've had people watching them for years, but I overlooked some things and people. I've sent someone to investigate; I'll soon have a list of those who frequently interact with them."

"In reality, you're not safe," Skylar said, concerned. "Have they given you anything recently?" She felt something was amiss.

Joe thought a moment, then shook his head. "They can't touch me."

Suddenly, Lucas slammed on the brakes.
