Chapter 85
Jeffrey felt no better than Maisy. His face soured.
“Skylar, did you say something to Mr. Ziegler to make him and Mr. Martin vilify the Williams Group? Why else would Mr. Martin be so cold to us?” Maisy's eyes glinted with resentment as she angrily interrogated Skylar.
“What’s your relationship with Mr. Ziegler?” Jeffrey questioned, frowning.
Facing them, Skylar remained silent.
“Get out of my way,” she said, attempting to leave, but Maisy blocked her.
Maisy was furious. “That’s enough, Skylar. Explain yourself.” If Skylar had slandered them to Paul, there would be hell to pay.
“Skylar, explain yourself. Tell me about your relationship with Mr. Ziegler. I’m your father. I need to know everything.” Jeffrey's tone dripped with displeasure.
Hearing Jeffrey call himself her father, Skylar felt a sharp pang in her heart, despite her cold demeanor. He was a good father—a good father to Maisy.
“When I called you ‘Dad’ before, you never cared. Now that I’ve disowned you, you want to know everything? Mr. Williams, don’t be pathetic. Move!” Skylar said coldly.
Noticing the tension, a nearby security guard asked, “Ms. Sullivan, do you need assistance?”
“I’m her father. It’s none of your business!” Jeffrey roared.
He wouldn't dare yell at Joe, but he couldn't tolerate insubordination from a mere security guard. To do so would make him a joke in Jipsburg.
“My father’s surname is Sullivan. You’re not my father,” Skylar retorted with a smirk.
Taking advantage of Jeffrey’s surprise, she pushed past him and Maisy and left.
As she hurried away, an overwhelming numbness surged through her, bringing back painful memories. How dare Jeffrey claim to be her father? Was he even worthy?
“Skye! Skylar!”
Jeffrey and Maisy called out as Skylar left, but she ignored them. Before they could catch her, she was in her car and speeding away.
“Dad, Skylar…” Maisy was filled with hatred, anger, and frustration.
Jeffrey mirrored her feelings.
“I’ll go back to the office. You go home,” he said.
“What about Skylar?” Maisy wanted to clear things up with Skylar. Did she really influence Joe's impression of her? She regretted not reacting faster.
Jeffrey frowned, feeling a headache coming. “Don’t worry about Skylar for now. It’s a good thing she’s with Mr. Ziegler. Let me sort out the company’s affairs, then I’ll call her back home and give her a proper lecture. You go home first.”
“Okay,” Maisy reluctantly agreed, still dissatisfied.
As she left, she texted Christopher: “I know why Skylar broke up with you. She has a sugar daddy now—the assistant to the CEO of Martin Group.”
