Chapter 853
Skylar nodded. “Being able to think like that means Hector has moved on.”
“It was nothing much. What man hasn't had a few injuries? If you haven't broken a bone twice, you're not a real man. Compared to me, his injuries are minor,” Caleb said, lifting his chin slightly.
He wasn't happy seeing Skylar complimenting someone else. He'd made a lot of progress recently, too.
Skylar saw Caleb's thoughts and smiled. “You’re right. You’re the bravest young man I’ve ever met, and you’re also very eager to learn. When you need to be steady, you can definitely hold your ground.”
“That’s right!”
Caleb worked energetically for the rest of the day, his proactive attitude astonishing his colleagues.
Later, Alexander discreetly asked Skylar, “Did something happen with him today?” Caleb had always slacked off, but today he was unusually diligent.
Skylar laughed. “Maybe he’s just grown up.”
Alexander nodded thoughtfully. A man's maturation could bring about a dramatic shift in attitude. He felt a pang of sadness at Caleb's newfound maturity.
Half an hour before the end of the workday, Gloria called Skylar, asking her to come to the Pearlhall Residence. Concerned, Skylar went straight there after work. Joe was already there, still sipping water. Their eyes met briefly.
Skylar sat beside Gloria. “Skye, take a look at these wedding dresses,” Gloria said, handing her a stack of photos. Each dress was exquisitely designed.
Skylar, who'd once fantasized about wearing a wedding dress herself, was puzzled. “Wedding dresses?”
Seeing Skylar's confusion, Gloria chuckled. “You and Joe have been married a while, but you never had a proper wedding. None of your friends or family even know you’re married. I was thinking of arranging one. Perhaps I could discuss the details with your mother in the next few days if she’s available.”
“A wedding!” Skylar was startled. She and Joe were planning a divorce; they'd even signed a contract to keep their marriage secret.
Joe, seeing Skylar's surprise, frowned. “Even if we start planning now, it’ll take at least a year. It’s the perfect time to start picking out a dress.”
“Alright, I’ll take a look,” Skylar replied, noticing Joe's frown. Gloria likely didn't know about the impending divorce.
Gloria, blissfully unaware, happily planned their wedding. Not wanting to disappoint her, Skylar carefully examined the dresses.
Gloria smiled warmly. “Pick out a few, and I’ll have them sent to the Galaxy Villa. You can try them on. If none feel right, we can bring in a designer from abroad. These are one-of-a-kind pieces. Since they’ve been sent to me, no one else has worn them. For your wedding, the dress must be truly unique.”
Skylar felt a pang of guilt. Gloria was so kind; she felt terrible about continuing the deception.
