Chapter 858
Skylar hadn't thought much of it; many friends were at the club. But she hadn't expected Joe to return so early the next morning. He was drunk, stumbling as if walking on clouds.
"Are you drunk?" she asked.
Joe, rarely so inebriated, cupped her face. He leaned in, kissing her hard. Skylar hadn't anticipated this. "What are you doing?" she asked.
"I want to sleep with you," he said, his tone heavy. He kissed her again before she could respond.
Skylar was no match for him; he was an unyielding wall. Her rationality shattered as he kissed her forcefully. He knew her body intimately; his touch ignited her. He was wild when drunk. They spent the morning in a passionate frenzy. The sheets were in disarray, condoms scattered on the floor.
It took Skylar a long time to reconnect with her body. She was dazed, unsure how long she'd been that way. Staring at Joe's sleeping face, his arm draped over her, she felt disoriented. They had been so intense; he'd called her name repeatedly, his passion focused and fervent.
Gradually regaining her composure, she slipped from under his arm. Feeling sticky and uncomfortable, she showered, changed, and went downstairs. Joe had returned just as she was leaving for work. Lacking time for leave, and with her phone still in her bag, she found several missed calls and messages from Caleb and Alexander. Embarrassed, she quickly called Caleb.
"Caleb, could you help me take a day off? I've been unwell and asleep until now."
Thankfully, he didn't pry, simply telling her to rest and see a doctor if needed. The morning's intensity left her with an indescribable feeling. Searching the fridge for sustenance, she heard a noise at the front door. Checking the surveillance footage, she saw Vera standing outsideโdischarged from the hospital.
Skylar opened the door, but Vera remained outside, waving a bag toward the camera. Skylar wondered if she was dropping something off. Seeing this, Skylar stepped outside.
Vera's smile faltered upon seeing Skylar. In recent days, Denton and Patricia had reminded her that Skylar wasn't the ordinary girl she'd imagined; she possessed unique qualities. If Joe was keeping Skylar at Galaxy Villa, it might indicate genuine feelings. Vera had professed unconcern, appearing confident.
