Chapter 87
Janine was furious that Amelia had accused Skylar of being a "sugar baby." Skylar had been trying hard to please Christopher, and they had been taking advantage of her kindness. Amelia and Christopher were unconscionable. Janine knew Skylar better than anyone.
She picked up her phone, intending to call Skylar, but put it down. She didn't want to worry her. Amelia had only called to irritate Janine. Had Janine known Amelia and Christopher were such hypocrites, she would have prevented Skylar and Christopher from dating.
Skylar had told Janine that Christopher was great and trustworthy, but it seemed she had fallen for the wrong man.
Looking at the painting Skylar had restored, Daniel grinned. Skylar had done a great job; it was one of the best restorations Daniel had ever seen. He watched Skylar begin the next painting and thought his money was well spent.
"I don't think you paid Skylar enough," Caleb said, having just finished his livestream. Seeing Daniel admiring Skylar's work as he was leaving, he felt bad for her. Skylar could have earned more.
Daniel glared at Caleb. "You know nothing. Now that you're finished, get lost!"
Had Daniel known Skylar wouldn't stay, he would have hired her for a few years. He could have brought in more difficult antiques to restore, making a fortune that would last generations. However, Skylar had a bright future, and maintaining a good relationship with her might benefit him later.
Skylar, working attentively, didn't hear their conversation. Feeling a neck ache, she stopped, washed her hands, and only then noticed the rain as she left Daniel's shop. Fortunately, her car was waiting. She quickly drove back to Galaxy Villa.
Halfway there, Natalie called. "Skye, can you keep me company? I'm at Mystic Bar."
"Wait for me," Skylar replied, immediately searching for the bar's location on her navigation app and driving there.
Natalie was bubbly and vibrant; she wouldn't be at a bar unless she was upset.
The rain had thinned, with few people on the street, but the bar was crowded. It took Skylar a while to find Natalie, who had an empty bottle on the table and was still drinking a cocktail. She was clearly drunk.
"Why are you drinking so much?" Skylar asked, frowning.
Natalie giggled. "Because it feels good! Drink with me, Skye! I have the money; my husband made a fortune, so I should spend it on his behalf, don't you think?"
