Chapter 877

After the nurse left, Skylar found Joe leaning against the outside wall.

“Aiken texted; he’ll be at the hospital soon. It’s almost dawn. Are you tired? Would you like to go home and rest?”

Joe suddenly took her hand and embraced her, whispering, “The Williamses treated you like that, too, didn’t they?”

Skylar’s eyes filled with tears. The hurt she’d suppressed after the Williamses’ downfall resurfaced. Even though it was over, cold sweat beaded on her forehead as she recalled what happened before her rebirth.

“It’s all in the past. I had a relatively happy childhood compared to Wendy’s. I had a loving mother and brothers who spoiled me. My experience with the Williamses isn’t worth mentioning.”

Skylar had been given a second chance, a chance many, like Wendy, lacked. Wendy had just turned eighteen, her whole life ahead of her. Skylar wanted to help, expecting nothing in return. In her past life, Gloria had helped her and the Sullivans without expecting repayment; the Williamses had been the opposite. Skylar wanted to pay kindness forward.

“I’d like to sponsor Wendy’s education, but anonymously. Could you help me?” Skylar asked.

Joe caressed her head. “I’ll take care of it.”

Aiken appeared from down the corridor, but seeing Skylar and Joe embracing, stepped back and retreated to the stairwell. He took a phone offered by one of his men. Videos showed the Specters insulting Simona and Wendy.

Aiken didn’t care if they’d driven Wendy to despair, but they shouldn’t have touched Simona.

“Look into the Specters and teach them a lesson.”

“Mr. Parkinson, how severe?”

Aiken produced a cigarette, then remembering the hospital, held it unlit between his teeth. “Go as far as you like, as long as they survive.”

Half an hour later, Skylar and Joe left the hospital, both falling asleep on the way home. After arriving at Galaxy Villa, they showered and napped for another two hours separately. Skylar went to work in the morning, leaving Joe still asleep.

She’d just clocked in when she encountered Caleb, who seemed dejected and greeted colleagues weakly. Seeing Skylar, he approached her.

“Um… I heard rumors about Woodman High. Some students bullied Simona and another girl. The school’s hushed it up. I heard it from a student; I don’t know if it’s true. Who would dare bully Simona with her temper?”

Though phrased as a question, Caleb knew the answer. If the news reached him, it was undoubtedly true; no one dared give him false information about Simona.
