Chapter 889
When Skylar and Joe arrived at the badminton court, Rowan was already there with two friends Skylar didn't know.
"Hey, if I'd known you were bringing Skylar, I would've brought my girlfriend," Rowan said hastily. He told his friends, "You two go play. I'll play with you next time." They readily left for another court.
Rowan called Jenny right in front of Joe and Skylar. "Jenny, when will you arrive? Okay, we'll wait for you."
Skylar's eyes flashed. Jenny? She looked at Joe, but his expression remained unchanged.
After hanging up, Rowan explained, "I told my friends we were playing together, but Jenny was bored at home and wanted to cheer me on. Now that Skylar's here, we can play doubles!" He didn't hide his relationship; Skylar had seen him with Jenny at the hospital. He planned to end his engagement with Minerva soon.
Jenny arrived shortly afterward, unprepared to see Skylar and Joe. Rowan had only told her he'd be playing with university classmatesโhe'd never mentioned Joe and Skylar! She hadn't anticipated seeing them, especially Joe, who knew her secret. The pictures and videos flooded her mind, causing her to pale uncontrollably.
Skylar watched impassively.
"Why are you so pale? Are you feeling ill? Shoot, I forgot you were just discharged. You might not be fully recovered. Why don't you just watch us play?" Rowan said, his heart pounding for Jenny.
Joe glared at Jenny, making her tremble. She could only agree hastily, "Oh, alright."
Rowan and Joe played while Skylar and Jenny watched. Someone was selling smoothies, and Rowan, knowing how to win favor, bought them some to alleviate boredom.
Skylar accepted, sipping her smoothie while admiring Joe's physique. Jenny, however, remained lost in thought before finally looking at Skylar. She pleaded softly, "Skylar, I know I made a mistake. I hope you don't hold what I said against me. I was impulsive. Now, I deeply regret it. I was wrong about Joe; I want to be with Rowan. I won't harbor feelings for Joe. Please forgive me."
Tears shimmered in Jenny's eyes, evoking pity. Skylar might have shown mercy to a stranger; who wouldn't pity a crying beauty? But this was Jenny.
Skylar set down her smoothie. "Alright, I forgive you."
"Do you really? Then...could you please not tell Rowan? I don't want him to know. Let's pretend it was a secret, okay?"
Jenny was surprised by Skylar's reasonableness. Had she forgiven her so easily?
Skylar smiled. "There's no such thing as a secret. I'm not the only one who knows. I advise you to be honest with Rowan. You won't need to worry about being found out if you are."
