Chapter 92
Paul believed a successful complaint would likely result in a pay raise. Kenny and Samuel were surprised by his unconcern and lack of fear about being fired. They sensed something was amiss but couldn't pinpoint the problem.
Seeing the phone Paul handed them, they were speechless.
"I've given you a chance," Paul said, putting the phone to his ear. "You two should read some books and learn how to treat your younger sister and maintain your family relationships. You'll regret your actions one day."
He received his desired compliment from Joe and happily hung up.
Skylar was pleased by Kenny and Samuel's embarrassment. They had brought it upon themselves.
"I'm leaving," Skylar said to Paul before entering her car. "Thank you for today, Mr. Ziegler. I'll treat you to a meal next time."
Paul felt honored and nodded. "Okay!" He had a question for her. His parents owned a family heirloom, but its authenticity was questionable; others believed it was a counterfeit. He was uncomfortable asking others for an appraisal but felt safe asking Skylar.
Kenny and Samuel watched Skylar leave, too pained to protest. The embarrassment prevented them from making a fuss.
Paul crossed the road. The brothers exchanged looks. Samuel gritted his teeth. "Skylar will definitely regret her actions. She only pleased me last time to gain my acknowledgment as her older sister."
"And she's probably trying to attract our attention with this act," Samuel continued. "You see plots like this in most scripts."
Kenny frowned, a troubled feeling weighing on him, though he couldn't articulate it. "I don't think so. Her relationship with Mr. Ziegler doesn't seem like what Dad described."
Samuel said fiercely, "No matter what, I only acknowledge Maisy as my younger sister. Maisy is my only sister!"
Across the road, Paul got into his car. "Mr. Martin," he said, "Ms. Sullivan is fine."
"Okay," Joe replied, looking cold and frustrated.
Paul asked hesitantly, "Mr. Martin, are you still attending the Coleman family banquet at the pier?"
Joe's eyes darkened, his dislike for such events evident. "Go back to Galaxy Villa."
Skylar arrived at Galaxy Villa before Paul. Upon entering, she received a message from Gloria. Gloria knew Skylar had accepted a painting restoration job and asked about her availability after work.
Skylar replied, "Grandma, I'll leave work at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow."
Gloria replied almost instantly, "George has been urging me to bring you to his house. I'll have the chauffeur pick you up tomorrow. Then we'll go to George's house together."
Skylar wrote, "Okay, Grandma. See you tomorrow!" She had been so busy lately that she almost forgot her promise to George at the hospital.
After putting down her belongings, she went to the kitchen, starving after the events at the bar.
Joe returned and found Skylar busy in the kitchen; the aroma of cooking food wafted towards him.
