Chapter 936

They described Skylar as embarrassing, disobedient, and unacceptable. The words pierced her heart. She frowned. Joe suddenly took her hand.

“My wife is incomparable,” he defended her firmly.

Spencer's expression darkened. “Is she really? Could she compare to Vera? Joe, you’re too impulsive.”

Ernest simpered, “Fine, let’s all take a step back. We don’t care who you married. You’ll see who truly wants the best for you in time. Commenting now will only annoy you. The most pressing issue is Derek and Edwin. One call can get them out of prison.”

“I’ll help make the call,” Claudio offered, approaching with a phone.

“Whoever calls them now, I’ll give you a taste of being stabbed eight times,” Joe warned coldly. His voice echoed in the stillness of the night, sending chills down everyone's spines.

Skylar felt his icy hands and clasped them. Spencer glanced at Ernest, whose face had paled with anger. “Ernest came personally to plead for mercy. Aren’t you going to show him some deference? Must you be so extreme?”

“I’m getting old; my influence wanes. Perhaps I should speak with Gloria. Her son is also detained, and she might be less stubborn,” Ernest said stoically. Experience, he knew, still held sway. Within minutes, he exploited Joe’s vulnerabilities.

The Martin family knew Joe’s weakness; they’d anticipated this. He’d always been ruthless, harsh, and unconcerned with family.

Skylar’s face fell. How dare they involve Gloria! If Gloria knew about Joe's injuries, the shock could be detrimental to her recent recovery.

Then, the door burst open. Gloria stormed in, eyes red-rimmed, her pupils constricting at the sight of Joe's pale face. She glared murderously. “My grandson is covered in stab wounds because of your son and grandson! They should be imprisoned!”

Ernest's children would have bankrupted the company if not for Joe’s support of the Martin Group over the years. What ungrateful bastards! They’d schemed against him, and now, they’d stabbed him.

Gloria walked to the bed, tears welling but held back. She glanced at Skylar, relieved to see their hands intertwined. Joe needed Skylar now.

“I’m fine,” Joe said hoarsely.
