Chapter 937
Gloria's eyes were even redder. "What do you mean you're fine?" she exclaimed. "I've spoken to the doctor. You were bleeding profusely! Some wounds were dangerously close to being fatal! I won't let them get away with this. Everyone in Jipsburg will be our witness this time."
"Gloria, I know you feel terrible for Joe. So do I. I'm furious. But it's happened, and nothing we say will change that. No one will emerge unscathed. Edwin is detained, too!" Ernest said, feigning a calmer demeanor than he felt.
Gloria shook her hands, her voice cold. "We'll discuss this tomorrow. Joe mustn't have been stabbed for nothing. If you cared, you wouldn't have come to the hospital in the middle of the night. Get out, all of you!"
Before Ernest could reply, Gloria roared, "Get lost!"
Despite their dissatisfaction, they left under Gloria's strict command.
Silence fell over the room. Alone, Gloria wept openly. She looked at Joe. "Does it hurt? Why didn't you tell me immediately? If the club fight hadn't caused such a commotion, and if they hadn't been taken to the police station, I wouldn't even know. You!"
Skylar hugged her, comforting her. "Grandma, don't cry."
"I'm fine," Joe said gently. "The wounds are stitched up."
Gloria's heart ached at his insistence. "How can you be alright? You were stabbed multiple times!"
She turned to Skylar. "Were you scared?" (Referring to both Joe's injuries and Ernest's arrival.) Ernest had never been pleasant to Skylar.
Skylar shook her head. "No, I wasn't scared."
"Good girl," Gloria said, patting her head.
Joe glanced at the clock. "Grandma, go home and rest. It's late. I'm alright. Don't worry."
"Your unclesโฆ" Gloria remained concerned.
Joe's eyes hardened. "They can't do anything to me." Tomorrow, they would face consequences. He'd been too merciful.
Gloria paused, then sighed. "I know you have ways of dealing with them, but don't get hurt. I'm getting old. I just want you to be safe."
Leaving, she looked exhausted. Skylar accompanied her to the door.
Outside the hospital, Gloria held Skylar's hand. "Joe keeps his worries to himself. He won't share them. I know him well; I've watched him grow up. With you, he'll finally have someone to talk to. Skylar, I entrust his care to you. Be happy together, alright?"
Gloria seemed decades older. Skylar nodded. "Don't worry, Grandma. I'll stay by his side. We'll be alright."
Reassured, Gloria drove away. Skylar returned to the hospital. As she approached the elevator, someone blocked the door and rushed in. Recognizing the person, Skylar's face fell.
"Joe will divorce you sooner or later. I know him well. He married you out of respect for Gloria. Consider your backup plan. You can remain his wife publicly, but we can date secretly. How does that sound?"
