Chapter 939
Joe was right. What part of him had she never seen? Skylar quickly pulled down his pants and turned away. She had seen everything, but this was a little too embarrassing. After a while, Joe said, “I’m done.” Skylar quickly helped him put his pants back on. Thankfully, he was wearing scrub pants; she didn't need to tie them.
Afterwards, Joe got back into bed and fell asleep. Skylar remained concerned. She touched his forehead to check his temperature, then, reassured, lay down on the neighboring bed.
When she woke the next day, Joe was still asleep. The sun had just begun to rise at six in the morning. Skylar had taken two days off from work. With Joe hurt, their Fachington holiday would be canceled or postponed.
She freshened up and snuck out of the room, planning to buy breakfast from the hospital canteen. Before she could leave, she saw Paul waiting by the door.
“Mrs. Martin.”
“When did you arrive?”
“Half an hour ago. I was afraid I might disturb you and Mr. Martin, so I remained quiet. I bought some clothes last night. If Mr. Martin dislikes the hospital scrubs, he can change into these. I also brought breakfast. I divided it; he needs to be on a diet.”
Skylar smiled. Paul had thought of everything. “Perfect. I was just about to go to the canteen. Thank you.”
“Then I’ll return to the company. I’ll leave Mr. Martin in your capable hands. Call me if you need anything. Oh, yes. Mrs. Martin Senior said some family will be coming later,” Paul said.
Joe was about to act against them, and Paul needed to carry out Joe's orders. The thought made his blood boil. How dare they hurt Joe? They needed to be taught a lesson! Failure to do so would only embolden them.
Skylar nodded. “Alright, got it.”
After Paul left, Skylar entered the room with the breakfast. She tiptoed in. Joe was still asleep. This was the first time she’d seen him sleep so soundly. They’d lived together for a long time, and Skylar knew how sensitive he was to noise; he usually woke at the slightest sound.
It was also the first time she’d seen Joe so weak. She felt compelled to protect him.
Skylar checked her phone. Natalie had sent many texts last night. She hadn’t had time to read or reply. Now she converted the voice messages to text:
“Skylar, what time are you arriving? Once you’re here, I’ll give you a city tour! I’ve told Mr. Powell I’ll be taking time off. He knows you’re coming and wants everyone to meet.
Right, didn’t I tell you Jeremy and Helena came to Fachington too? They left a few days ago. Skylar, I can’t figure out Jeremy. I have no idea what he’s thinking. He’s going on holiday with Helena, yet he says he wants to marry me again! Whatever. No matter what he thinks or does, I won’t be seeing him much. Besides, we’ve known each other for years and once loved each other deeply. I don’t want things to end like this between us. Skye, I miss you so much! Come quickly!”
After reading them, she replied, “Something came up. I have to postpone my trip to Fachington. I’ll wait for your return in Jipsburg.”
She’d just finished replying when she felt eyes on her. Skylar looked up. Joe was watching her. He must have woken up a while ago. His eyes were completely clear; there was no trace of drowsiness.
