Chapter 948

Skylar paused.

Molly seized the opportunity, adding, "Think about it. I can address your non-monetary concerns as well. Are you content to remain Alexander's subordinate? The moment you agree, I'll elevate you to surpass even Alexander. Miss this chance, and it's gone forever. With your abilities, working for him is unnecessary, wouldn't you say?"

She anticipated a difficult negotiation. Their last conversation had ended with Skylar rejecting a financial offer; this would be even harder. However, her promise might resonate; few willingly submit to others.

To Molly's surprise, Skylar refused without hesitation. "You overestimate me," she said. "There's no need to waste time on me."

She started the car and drove away.

Molly was furious. Her driver, noticing her stillness, opened the car door. "Mrs. Martin, shall we leave?" he asked.

Her bitterness was palpable. Only after some time did she compose herself. "Let's go," she finally said.

Once in the car, Molly sighed, frustration simmering. She knew Joe and Skylar suspected her, perhaps even employing investigators. But she'd been meticulous; they'd find nothing.

Still, Joe and Skylar remained wary. Skylar, in particular, had repeatedly thwarted their plans. They weren't willing to yield to her.

Moreover, Molly had wasted decades by Edwin's side. If not for her grand ambition, she would have left long ago. The thought of those years with Joe ignited a fresh wave of anger; she'd wasted so much time.

She retrieved a second phone and made a call.

"She refused. I doubt she'll accept any offer."

"Understood. We'll wait longer."

Upon arriving home, Skylar recounted her encounter with Molly to Joe.

"She's audacious," Joe said, his eyes narrowing.

Skylar agreed. "Perhaps her employer is growing impatient," she suggested. "Molly may have spent years by your father's side to set this trap."

It felt like a colossal game of chess.

After a few minutes of silence, Joe called someone. "Monitor Molly's every move."

Hanging up, he told Skylar, "Be careful leaving the house. I'll arrange discreet security."

Skylar didn't feign refusal. "Alright," she agreed.

His protection offered a sense of relief, a subtle connection between them.

Skylar looked at him. "She told me you'd divorce me for Vera."

Joe's brow furrowed. His expression shifted as Skylar went to the kitchen.

Helpers from Pearlhall Residence had prepared dinner ten minutes before their arrival.
