Chapter 956

Minerva's frigid attitude left Rowan stunned. He frowned, noticing Jenny's unease. "Rowan, we've arrived," she said softly, biting her lip.

Snapping back to reality, Rowan helped Jenny from the elevator. As the doors closed, he glanced back, meeting Minerva's cold, mocking gaze. The unsettling feeling intensified. Despite their long acquaintance, Rowan had always considered Minerva rather dull, their intimacy notwithstanding. He neither liked nor disliked her, yet her current expression evoked a past he'd almost forgottenโ€”a genuine dislike directed at him.

Seeing Rowan's lingering gaze, Jenny's distress escalated. "Do you regret breaking up with her? If you do, go to her now! You're from similar backgrounds; your families intended for you to be together. I shouldn't have interfered. If you want her, go. We'll break up."

The elevator doors closed, and Rowan realized the implications of his actions. "You're overthinking this," he said. "I've known her a long time. Seeing her ill in the hospital, I simply asked how she wasโ€”a courtesy."

Jenny remained unconvinced, her anxiety growing. "Do you still have feelings for her? I can't tolerate any third parties. I want your complete love. You can't be with me while still thinking about Minerva. It's unfair."

Determined to prevent another encounter, Jenny worried about a potential pregnancy revelation ruining everything, especially if the Jakeman family learned of it. She wondered why Minerva was hospitalized and if surgery was involved, the thought quickening her pulse. If so, her concerns might be alleviated.

Rowan sighed, feeling Jenny's reaction unreasonable. "I told you, there's nothing between Minerva and me. Why won't you trust me?"

Jenny's expression hardened. "Rowan, I want to trust you, but remember what you said. You and Minerva have nothing to do with each other, so you needn't worry about her health. Right now, I'm the one who's sick, and you should focus on me." She needed his undivided attention.

A deep breath failed to quell Rowan's growing unease. Looking at Jenny, he felt his years of persistence wavering. This wasn't the Jenny he knew.

Seeing his silent scrutiny, Jenny panicked. "Why are you looking at me like that? I was just jealous, a bit overwrought with worry. Don't take it too seriously."

She felt herself teetering on the edge, her outburst entirely Minerva's fault. Why this hospital? Why not another?

Trying to ease the tension, Rowan softened his tone. "As long as you know. Let's see what the doctor says."

Jenny looked at him with affection. "I'm so happy to have you, Rowan. No matter what, as long as we're together, everything will be fine."

Rowan's lingering doubts dissipated. "I feel the same way."

In Fachington, Skylar disembarked from the plane, leaning back wearily in a luxury SUV. Joe handed her a bottle of water.

"Thank you," she murmured, taking a few grateful sips. The flight had left her ears aching, and the journey was exhausting. Joe, a seasoned business traveler, looked far more composed. He and Paul immediately resumed work.
