Chapter 973

Natalie was surprised by Austin's behavior but dismissed it. He was likely concerned about Jeremy causing her trouble. Both Austin and Hank were aware of her complicated relationship with Jeremy.

Turning to her room, she glanced at Jeremy and said, "I think we're done here. My colleagues from the studio have organized an event, and I need to attend." She grabbed her phone, feigning a departure. Jeremy's expression darkened; he grabbed her wrist.

Natalie sharply pulled away, immediately regretting her reaction. She apologized, asking, "Do you need anything else?"

Jeremy felt a sharp pang in his chest at her unfamiliar question, as if his heart were gripped. He also noticed Austin watching him, seemingly poised to intervene. He found it laughable.

"No," he said coldly, and strode from the room. Pausing at the door, he exchanged a meaningful glance with Austin. Their silent communication was understood only by them. By the time Natalie left, Jeremy had already departed.

Once Jeremy was in the elevator, Austin asked, "Did he give you trouble?"

Natalie hesitated. "No, we just discussed a few things."

Austin noted her still-red, swollen eyes but refrained from further questioning.

After Skylar entered the car, Joe took a phone call lasting over half an hour. Skylar gazed out the window at the passing scenery. As she continued watching the night, drowsiness overcame her. Just as she was about to sleep, Joe ended the call.

"Are you tired?" he asked.

Already sleepy, Skylar nodded weakly.

"Lean on me and rest," Joe offered, gesturing.

Just as Skylar moved to do so, Joe's phone rang again. The distinct ringtone jolted her awake. Joe seemed surprised and displeased by the second call.

"Go ahead and answer it," Skylar said, deciding to wait until the hotel to sleep.

Joe paused, then answered with slight hesitation. The caller likely inquired about his availability. Joe replied coolly, "I don't have time right nowโ€ฆ Let's see how things are when I return to Jipsburg."

After a brief conversation, Joe ended the call, switched off his phone, and looked at Skylar. Noticing she was still gazing out the window, he asked, "Did you enjoy yourself these past few days?"

Skylar looked away. "Yes, I had a good time."

"Is something bothering you?"

"No, I'm just tired."

Skylar recalled Vera's earlier Instagram post hinting at taking the initiative. Vera mentioned that, after all these years, the person accompanying her to Fachington was someone she hadn't previously valued. Now, she realized the person she'd wanted all along was the one she'd had from the beginning.

They arrived at the hotel. As Skylar looked up upon entering, she noticed almost every room had a balcony. Some people stood on them, enjoying drinks and the night view. It was quite a coincidence.
