Chapter 972

Natalie couldn't understand Jeremy's inability to grasp her decision. Many people confided in Jeremy, yet he failed to comprehend her reasons for ending their marriage.

"Our issuesโ€ฆ" Jeremy's expression hardened. Whatever initially transpired between him and Annabelle, his wavering was evident. Natalie, though straightforward, wasn't unaware of his past indiscretion; he knew this. He had only cheated once.

"It won't happen again, Nath. It's time to come home," Jeremy said, his voice deep and resonant.

At the mention of "home," Natalie wept. "Our home is gone, Jeremy. I may be petty, but our relationship ended the day we divorced." She knew herself, and she knew him; reconciliation was impossible. Jeremy's body tensed, his features sharpening. A heavy silence descended.

He took a step closer, the small room feeling claustrophobic. A single step separated them. Natalie heard his anger in his breathing. Wiping her tears, she stepped back, increasing the distance. "We need to move on," she said. She was certain their relationship was irrevocably in the past.

The past with Annabelle wasn't the only obstacle. Natalie also recognized a changed Jeremy; he had evolved since their marriage, becoming someone she no longer knew. She, too, had changed. Their divorce was mutual.

Jeremy lowered his gaze. "We need to move forward. Forget the past. Let's start fresh."

Natalie cried again. "Jeremy, please stop. I don't know how to face you."

He reached for her tears; she recoiled. His hand froze.

A knock sounded. A gentle voice inquired, "Is anyone there?" The voice identified the visitor: Austin.

Jeremy's expression darkened, his demeanor menacing. Natalie glanced at him before rushing to the door. "Mr. Powell, I'm here."

Austin entered, his expression neutral. His gaze met Jeremy's, and tension filled the air. Natalie regretted opening the door; Austin saw her tear-stained face, with Jeremy present.

"Mr. Powell, do you need something? Iโ€ฆ have a friend here," Natalie said, taking a deep breath.

Austin looked at Natalie's red, swollen eyes, frowning slightly. "There's an event at the studio tonight. Do you want to come?"

Hesitating, considering the unresolved situation, she nodded. "Yes, I'll come. I'll get ready."

"Okay, I'll wait," Austin said, showing no intention of leaving. He remained by the door.

Jeremy's irritation was palpable. He glared at Austin, who seemed oblivious, leaning against the doorframe.
