Chapter 990

Aiken and Simona paused their conversation and, with Skylar, departed from the villa. In the car, Simona and Skylar engaged in lively chatter, ranging from Fachington's social scene to their new school and skincare routines. Aiken usually found such conversations headache-inducing, but today, he found them oddly comforting. Simona showed Skylar some photographs, likely of jewelry, and Skylar's knowledgeable commentary piqued Aiken's interest.

Before long, they arrived at a magnificent museumโ€”one of Fachington's largest, resembling a palace. Skylar, despite having been in the country for several days, hadn't yet had the opportunity to visit. It was on her itinerary, but she hadn't anticipated visiting with Aiken and Simona.

Exiting the car, they entered the museum. The sparse crowd allowed Skylar to enjoy the exhibits in quiet contemplation, her phone on silent. Aiken, having visited the museum before, observed from a distance.

Three hours later, they left. Skylar checked her phone, finding no messages. Just as she was about to put it away, Natalie sent a message: she'd caught a cold and was resting at the hotel, feeling unwell, and unable to meet. Skylar frowned; Natalie had recently been hospitalized for stomach pains.

"Skylar," Simona began, "Aiken and I were discussing lunch and continuing our sightseeing afterward. What do you think?" Aiken waited expectantly.

Feeling apologetic, Skylar explained, "A friend fell ill and is alone at the hotel. I'm worried and can't join you today. I'm so sorry."

Simona expressed her disappointment but was understanding. "It's okay. We'll hang out another time."

Aiken offered, "I'll have the driver take you," concealing his own disappointment.

Skylar declined. "I'll take a cab. Her hotel isn't far."

"Okay, be safe," they said.

After Skylar's departure, Simona noted Aiken's serious expression. "Why do I feel you're more disappointed than I am?"

Maintaining a straight face, Aiken replied, "Nonsense. Have you decided on lunch?"

Simona smirked, feigning disinterest. "Whatever. I saw some restaurants on the way. Let's grab something simple."

Without Skylar, Simona found herself bored. She regretted coming to Fachington with Aiken; it paled in comparison to their home country.

Aiken agreed. "Sounds good."

They chose a restaurant and ordered steaks. Skylar arrived at Natalie's hotel shortly thereafter.
