Jesson knew he couldn't refute that; still, he tried to explain himself. “Esse, please hear me out. I had no idea she’d pull something like that. You have to believe me.”
Jenson had felt like a hole had been punctured through his heart when he’d seen the video and spiteful comments online. He couldn’t imagine how devastated Estella must’ve been when she saw those comments. Yet, what he feared more was her misunderstanding that he might be involved.
Estella stated calmly, “I know you didn’t do it.”
Jesson lined his back at once. His eyes lifted. She believed him! Did that mean she’d forgiven him?
Jenson was so overcome with emotion that he was at a loss for words. Yet, Estella’s next words completely shattered all his hopes. “But you gave her the evidence she’s used to slander me. So, you’re not entirely faultless in this incident.”
Then, Estella took Rowan’s hand and walked away. Jenison was left standing there all by himself. He opened his mouth, yet he couldn’t bring himself to call after her. He could only watch her move further and further away.
Meanwhile, the netizens’ discussion about the incident grew more heated.
“I’m here to share some juicy info! Estella tapped along when Emily and her husband attended our high school gathering. I found it rather strange back then, with the way those two were looking at each other. I imagined Estella would turn out to be his mistress!”
“How could a mistress do something like that even when the wife was around?”
“Estella needs to kneel and apologize to Ms. Blanchard!”
The marriage certificate Emily posted online later further “validated” her claims of Estella being the mistress. There were various strong sentiments on the issue. That night, Jenson received a notice from his company. His superior was fuming and had issued Jenson a warning to pack up his things and leave the company if he wasn’t even capable of handling his personal matters.
Jenson had worked tirelessly for six years to get to where he was now. He’d never thought he would end up in such a precarious position because of one wrong decision.
The sound of his phone’s ringtone pulled him out of his reverie. Jenson clenched his jaw when he saw the name on the screen.
“Emily Blanchard, how dare you slander Estella! You need to clarify to everyone that she’s not my mistress. Otherwise, I’ll expose everything you’ve done to the public.”
Emily had long lost her rationality. She was determined to risk everything just to see Estella’s name ruined.
“Jenson, we’re in the same boat now. I’ll cooperate with you and clarify things if you’re willing to place all the blame on Estella too. It’s either your career or your ex-girlfriend. You’re a smart man. You know what you should pick, right?”
Jenson tightened his grip on his phone. The veins on his temples bulged.
