Chapter 578:

Caden stepped forward, introducing the captain of the criminal investigation team. "He will be escorting you to see Corey."

The captain politely nodded to Alicia, who returned the gesture. A warmth bloomed in her chest as she glanced at Caden. Having already discussed the details with him, she saw no need to speak further with Corey. They quickly obtained the chip.

Corey said cautiously, "I'll release Blake once you've handled this."

Alicia's gaze lingered on him. With a faint smile, Corey reassured her, "Don't worry, Ms. Bennett. I have no intention of harming him." He knew keeping Blake served as leverage; without a hostage, she could withdraw at any time.

Corey led her to the tech room. Around others, Alicia was strictly professional, a damper on any attempt at small talk. This was Corey's first glimpse of this side of her. Her delicate features held more than mere beauty; her intense focus revealed a fervent passion for technology, exuding a quiet, composed confidence.

Corey's gaze settled on Alicia, but she didn't look up. "I don't need your help. Please leave."

Corey chuckled. "I bet you're not this tough around Caden."

Alicia raised an eyebrow. "Is that relevant to the problem at hand?"

Corey had seen enough of her work to know her temper, when provoked, was as sharp as Caden's. With the chip demanding his attention, he pushed aside his thoughts and asked, "You're doing me a monumental favor. What do you want in return?"

Alicia smiled. "Caden and I already discussed it. Considering your situation, let's just call it a goodwill gesture."

Corey was speechless. Accustomed to bestowing favors, he found being the recipient of pity—especially from a competitor—unpalatable. He refused the gesture. "Spare me the charity. Just tell me what you want."

Before Alicia could respond, an urgent knock came at the door.
