Chapter 580:
Corey recalled Alicia’s swift earlier actions, then shifted his gaze to the oblivious woman before him. With a poker face, Yolanda seemed preoccupied only with attracting male attention.
“Yolanda, after all those years learning technology from Dorian, what exactly have you managed to master?” He chuckled derisively.
Yolanda’s eyes flashed with anger. “Are you questioning me?”
Corey sneered. “Questioning you? I simply don’t think much of you.”
Yolanda’s gaze shifted to the closed door of the tech room, a surge of jealousy welling within her. She had once dismissed Alicia as merely a pretty face, but that illusion shattered today. Alicia had assisted Corey in unforeseen ways. To Yolanda, Alicia was a deeply embedded thorn, poised to erupt at any moment. A cold chill of realization crept over her. “Alicia must have trained secretly, just to outshine me.”
Corey, suddenly remembering something, chuckled. “Maybe it’s just talent,” he suggested casually. “Some people, like Dorian, are simply born for this work.”
Yolanda was too agitated to notice the sarcasm in his tone. Corey, having other matters to attend to, walked away, leaving Yolanda staring at the closed door.
An hour later, weary and thirsty, Alicia stepped out to get water. As she took a few sips, faint footsteps echoed behind her—slow, measured, and decidedly unfriendly. Alicia’s instincts sharpened; her muscles tensed. As the figure approached, she sidestepped swiftly. Hot water sloshed across the table, narrowly missing her.
Alicia froze momentarily, but upon seeing Yolanda, her guarded expression softened. “Oh, it’s you, Miss Moss.” Alicia calmly took another sip. “Must you really go to all this trouble yourself? I would hate for your delicate bones to crack under the strain.”
Yolanda scoffed. Caught red-handed, she showed no remorse, her face twisted in smug amusement. “You might have dodged this time, but your luck won’t hold. Next time, maybe I’ll use sulfuric acid instead.”
Alicia remained unfazed by Yolanda’s malice. She had witnessed this side of her countless times before.
